That was how they got high horsepower in small blocks before the big blocks came along, with the mechanical fuel injection. 1963’s 327 was rated at 360 horses, and the last year was 1964 (395 hp). 1965’s big motor was the big block 396 rated at 425 horses.

Corvettes of that era along with the XKE were among the most beautiful cars ever.

Now that is GREAT! Thanks for posting that one. I’m the same age as Jay Leno and had the same reaction he did when this came out. My Dad had a buddy with a Corvette around ‘63 or ‘64 (probably ‘64) and it was for drooling over.

I’ve got a neighbor who spends winters in the Phoenix area and collects Corvettes. He has one around this era that is 99.7% original and has won a lot of awards. It sounds like the restoration of Mr Leno’s Corvette is what my neighbor has done to his collection.
