Re: Also the Chevy Novas of the same time period. With their "innocent" appearance they made cool looking hot rods.

I was also 12 in ‘63 which was about the time I got interested in cars, and this Vette was the standard against which all others were compared.

My buddies and I could identify every car on the road coming or going, and to get one wrong subjected one to razzing and abuse. Now I can’t tell one from another and could care less.

I knew a couple of guys back in 74 who had 302s crammed into those Falcons. One was worked from the pan to the valve covers and topped with dual quads. We were teenagers but I never saw him floor that thing. During the oil crises I doubt he ever got it above 40 mph. Try as he might he couldn’t get even 4 mpg...

Sounds like my Grandfathers 1964 Impala he bought new. High compression 327 blew out the factory mufflers and he relplaced them with lifetime mufflers from Sears. Those poor people at Sears got sick of repacing those mufflers till he traded for a new ‘69 Lemans two door post.

We could not only identify what car but what engine it had.

Maybe not all cars but the common Fords, Chevys etc.

A rich kid from up on country club hill ran over my dog in one of these. It gave me a worse attitude toward rich kids than I already had.

We are the same age and I recall the car identification
contests me and my buddies would have riding down the
road w/one or the other of our dads. Yah, we could
tell a ‘56 Buick from a ‘56 Chevy and so on. Thanks
for that nostalgic reminder even the razzing part.

I got a ‘64 Impala 283cu inch 2dr when I was a HS
senior in ‘69. Love that car looking back on it.
I changed the paint job from silver to light green
and added chrome reverses and baby moons.

Now that is GREAT! Thanks for posting that one. I’m the same age as Jay Leno and had the same reaction he did when this came out. My Dad had a buddy with a Corvette around ‘63 or ‘64 (probably ‘64) and it was for drooling over.

I’ve got a neighbor who spends winters in the Phoenix area and collects Corvettes. He has one around this era that is 99.7% original and has won a lot of awards. It sounds like the restoration of Mr Leno’s Corvette is what my neighbor has done to his collection.

However, my all-time favorite Vettes were the '69s...

Hugh Hefner would approve. ;

Lol! Talk about a 'sexy' car! The '69 Corvette was the metal equivalent of Raquel Welch!

How old are you Sivad?

That split window is a premium to collectors....it’s like saying one didn’t like the surf bar on a Super Bird

Leno of course has one of those too...Orange Peel as I think they called it

Like a Schwinn

1966 was first 911 with pissant horsepower

Half of today’s base model

I’ve owned 3

1972 silver 2.7 Targa

1984 green 3.2 Targa

1999 black 3.4 cabriolet

Decent prices used back then for performance

The 2020 are crazy expensive and all are turbos
