Yes, pythons were brought into the country as “pets” and then got loose and migrated to the Everglades. Since there are no known predators in Florida, they have multiplied like crazy and are eating everything they can find, including alligator eggs. Small dogs, rabbits, rats...all tasty treats.

While there is no doubt that pet pythons have long been released into the wild, Hurricane Andrew in '92 hit a Burmese Python breeding facility which ramped up the problem very quickly.
