A federal count shows the number of homeless people increased by double-digit percentages in three San Francisco Bay Area counties over two years as the region struggled to tackle the growing problem, including 17% in San Francisco and 43% in the county that includes Oakland.
More than 25,000 people were counted as homeless during an overnight tally conducted in San Francisco, Alameda and Silicon Valley’s Santa Clara counties in January. Detailed reports are expected later this year.
“The initial results of this count show we have more to do to provide more shelter, more exits from homelessness, and to prevent people from becoming homeless in the first place,” said San Francisco Mayor London Breed.
The San Francisco Bay Area is grappling with a homelessness crisis driven in part by too little housing stock and a raring tech economy that has widened the inequity gap. In my part of north eastern California, there are no homeless people. Too cold, it is still snowing here.
We reward bum behaviors here and penalize the productive and law

I think it’s wealth transference. We are full of government and universities and hospitals. So the entire country holds us up, taxwise.
Then you have the tech boom. The techies to a large degree have decided it’s cool here. Soon you have a self fulfilling prophecy as those who like moral deviance come here to work. The economy thrives for a while.
Only my theory but it can’t last forever if I am right. Many of the more productive citizens while they love homosexuality and abortion and feminism and socialism as long as they stay rich are getting fed up with the filth and waste. I am watching.
I think they inflate the numbers. It’s in their interest to do so. More funding.

Maybe. But if it’s 25percent high. that’s still an awful lot of people. Locally, it’s been an increasing problem. Portland sends some folks here on the bus because a local place has funds. The lake I fish has a semi-resident bunch. Most of them want to be left alone, and will behave and clean up after themselves better than some of the native slobs. Others are a problem.

The numbers of Homeless people, and journalists who report on them, tend to explode every time a Republican runs for re-election.
The surge will mysteriously vanish after the election.
