I watched a show years ago about a guy who hiked all over Australia.

A Crocodile Dundee kind of guy with a beard.

He found this beautiful little oasis in the middle of the desert.

Spring water and lots of vegetation.

Not one single animal.

He couldn’t figure it out.

No birds.....no lizards.....nothing.

Then he found a cat skeleton.

He said,

“Oh....here’s why there are no animals here. It’s the remains of a feral cat. It killed everything that was here and then starved to death.”

I like cats, but thank goodness they are smaller than us or we’d all be gone.

Exactly.

Rodents also carry hanta virus.

The plague can be treated with antibiotics and has a fairly high survival rate when treatment starts soon. Hanta virus has no specific treatment and a high death rate (rivalling that of Ebola). Hanta is spread in rodent droppings and urine, so the diseased rodent does not even have to be present to cause disease.

Wild rodents really freak me out. I hate having them come into the house.

They have lots of snakes and hawks/kites to get rodents.

I am laughing like a maniac inside and the others in my cubicle valley are wondering what is going on.

I admit I’ve never had to do that, but when my cat at the nursery needed pills, I crushed them up and mixed them in with his wet food, and he ate it all just fine. I also mixed-in some of the display gardens’ catnip, to disguise the pills’ smell. He loved it.

Since they were first introduced by European settlers, feral cats have helped drive an estimated 20 mammal species to extinction,

Hidden in that story cats have wiped out more mammal species that global warming!!

Feral cats are nowhere near big enough to take on the pythons. Cats here in FL usually get killed by foxes, and of course, bobcats. Coyotes also take their share. One of my cats was attacked by an owl. Maybe if Aussies weren’t so hard on the dingo there wouldn’t be a cat problem.

The dishwasher is better. You can put one on top and one on the bottom, without them getting tangled. Plus, you can dry them in the same machine.

So don’t “mess” with them. You can put out food for them and they can become tamed. Not quite like indoor house cats, but they can get friendly.

Up until two years ago I lived in an area that was overrun with feral cats. Yes I took pity on them and starting feeding some of them (I almost lost my job over it). But they never became friendly or tame.

I shoot cats all the time. Idiots along the highway dump them thinking they’re doing their pet a favor because these city fools think country life is so idyllic.

Then these cats turn feral and attack my barn cats or worse, they get killed and eaten alive by any of the variety of predators out here that think cats are tasty.

Better to just shoot them on sight and let the crows eat the leftovers.

I had to come up with something. I got tired of my Angoras getting tangled in the wash.

No kidding. When I was in Sydney recently, I couldn't tell if I was in Seoul or Beijing.

Separate the laundry!
Washing a Persian or Angora with regular laundry, will make your Hanes or Fruit of The Looms, look angora, LOL. You’d have to vacuum them off.

My insurance guy came by and was telling me that the biggest claim on tractors and other equipment with electrical systems was fire. Much of it related to mice chewing up the insulation made from some kind of green enviro friendly components.

My air conditioning went bad. Mice had nested in the outdoor air conditioning unit and had chewed on the wires. See those little bars? They can squeeze themselves nearly flat and get through there.

Well that is because animals are better than people. It is better that we don’t have any sparrows or robins as long as feral cats are available to keep the rodents in check. The important work done by feral cats far outweighs the importance of stupid birds. All birds do is chirp all day and crap on cars.

But it was still an act of kindness that you did and the cats appreciated it, even if they didn’t show it.

Once we put out food and water for a feral cat and talked to it nicely, when he came, and he became very tame and friendly and we actually adopted her. It had a very nice nature, never any trouble. Something terrible must have happened to her that she ended up on the street and now she was glad to have a good home.
