No one but committed Catholics should be involved in any aspect of rebuilding this Cathedral. It was built by and for Catholics. It is theirs. If they intend to turn it into a secular shrine, then it should never be rebuilt. Just bulldoze it.

In France, the state owns all the churches. There was long standing dispute between the Catholic Church and government over whom should foot the bill for restoration.

The steeple that fell wasn’t the original, anyways. It was from the mid 1800’s.

The original had been taken down in the late 1700’s because of weather damage.

They should preserve the Gothic design, but in modern materials.

And install a sprinkler system................

Here is the church, here is the steeple, open the doors and see all the art historians, secular folk proud of a local landmark, tourists, shady looking Muslims eying the structure for weaknesses and the three elderly ladies who are Christians.

I agree with you. Notre Dame was built as a holy place for
Christians to worship. No one else. It was built
and paid for by dedicated believers in Jesus Christ.
It was not and should never be a monument to religious diversity.

France is one of those countries where radical secularism is written into their laws. That’s the reason why they have adamantly opposed to public displays of Islam like women wearing head scarves, bags on their heads, etc.

It will have to be rebuilt with steel. The timers they used in “the old days” are not available today. So there won’t be a next time unless somebody flies a 747 heavy into it.
