There's a skunk under my deck and I'm not sure how to deal with it.

I’ve shot them in the head but don’t scare it or shoot the body. They are the worst for rabies.

I used pepper spray on a squirrel who seemed a little too interested in the space under my pool heater. He never came back.

What bullshit, it’s going to stink for a month and you can’t let your dogs out.

Get yourself a large python and let it loose under the deck. Problem solved.

“Short of taking it 20 miles away, it will come back.”

Excellent suggestion. Had same thing and trapped it and after driving 7 miles and CROSSING two rivers, never saw the thing again.

I think the secret was crossing a couple large rivers. . .

Our neighbors got a bunch of skunks from under their house into a garbage can!! (how??) and released them in the next town. Saw a photo about ‘recent skunk invasion’ in that town, haha.

Throw the trap in The river with the skunk in it. Rabies are so rampant with skunks it should be thrown away too.

I have a blog that I have never referred to on FR.

Am I okay with you or do you hate all bloggers?

This is what we generally do with ours:
GOLUX’S SKUNK RECIPE
1. Trap Skunk. Sometimes a wire will do.
2. Coax skunk to sleep by reading “Start Now!: You Can Make a Difference,” Chelsea Clinton’s new book.
3. Rap Skunk hard on head with 2’ long 2x4. MUST NOT USE pressure treated 2x4.
4. Do not discard the 2x4
5. Preheat oven to 500 degrees F.
6. Wait until oven “burns off.”
7. Take 4-6 galvanized nails and nail skunk to 2x4. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
8. Place skunk / 2x4 assembly into oven
9. Roast 5-6 hours at 500
10. Remove assembly.
11. Season 2x4 with a little olive oil or Hoppe’s
12. Carefully remove nails and eat 2x4.

You always treat skunks as rabid. Always.

“Trap it again and shoot it this time”

I’d not do that as I have experience in shooting one. Shot one and the stink sac released. . .yuck. . .you now have a REALLY powerful smelly problem on your hands that is much worse than a simple skunk smell.

Oh, skunk under deck. When I first read the title I thought it said “desk”. You’re not in as much trouble as I first thought.

I would have done so but the wife unit thought the skunk was a cute little thing. . .too cute to kill.

Leave it alone. Once the babies are sufficiently grown they will wander off, and the mother likely will also, as she has no nest to protect any longer.

(Or you can call the sheriff or the humane society; I’m sure they have experience with this type of thing, and can bring animal traps.)
