Go look at the DeMoines Register website. Bernie is advocating to allow felons to vote. Most Democrats have little or no values and are criminally-minded, just like Trump has said. So, it makes sense.
Is that a real breakdown or just your guesstimate? Plus, just because one is eligible to vote that doesn't equate to actually voting. In some/most jurisdictions merely registering to vote signs you up for other 'civic' dealings that many would rather avoid (Jury Duty). I've always sided with the notion that you pay for your crimes and that is the end of your judgement in this life. God may deem otherwise but that ain't my call. Virginia and Florida (right?) have both made felons eligible to vote. How did those registrations pan out. I don't know or I wouldn't be asking. I think I read recently that reps outnumbered dems registering in Florida, may have been Fake News?
OK Bernie, should they get their right to purchase and possess firearms back too?

EXACTLY - the law was PERFECTLY CLEAR that part of the punishment is to NEVER be allowed to vote...so you do not complete ‘paying for your crimes’ until you are no longer alive. NO ONE is saying that, for example, people who shop-lifted, should now have their voting rights actually TAKEN AWAY, which is what you seem to be confusing this with.
As to your other stuff: I can’t speak for Florida, since the change was only a few months ago, but Virginia was a red state, but now they are BRIGHT BLUE, so I guess those imaginary Republican felons never bothered to show up for us.

most paroles systems have designations as to types of discharges when you finish parole. Like honorable and less that honorable.

Like I said earlier, if the punishment at the time of the crime included NEVER being allowed to vote again, then the only way for the criminal to fully ‘pay for their crime’ is to never vote again. Otherwise it’s really no different than changing the sentence of a murder from Death Row, to 10 years in jail. At the time the murder was committed, the punishment was execution...but now a judge determines that he ‘paid for his crime’ by being locked up for 10 years (which, I agree, is no fun), and then sets him loose, based on that. If the person did the killing knowing he could be executed, he deserves THAT PUNISHMENT, otherwise no one will seriously consider the risk involved before committing similar crimes.

Laws are fluid. Those that have the power to will a Law to read 'A' do so. Others that come to power and will the Law to read 'B' do so.

This thread is about felons voting not shop lifters unless that is felonious. I admit to being confused on a lot of stuff but I'm pretty sure I figured that much out for myself.

Virginia was Red before it elected to go Blue, THEN felons were given the right to vote. That may/may not lead to Virginia remaining Blue or turning back Red. Who knows? See my first para. for the blueprint. So far as the rest of your reply, you appear to have jumped the rails.

Historically a felony would have been a crime against the constitution. Thus losing the right to vote made a lot of sense...........................

I would agree if this were a 65/35 country with our side on top, but, at best it’s 52/48.
If we had the higher number than 52%, then yes, we could be ‘nice’ and give the other side a few more percent, but it is NOT the case today. We have our FREEDOM on a shoe-string, and if we do something dumb, and give them control, IT IS OVER for us, barring a civil war - and sorry for you gun nuts, I prefer to NOT have another civil war in this country. I simply want to DEFEAT Democrats politically and I will FIGHT ANYONE who wants to make it easier for those animals (scripture or not).

Thanks, but try to understand my other point too. We are a 52/48 Republican country (at best). We literally have NO ROOM to enable our enemies, even if we want to be kind and generous. We are dealing with the country we leave to our kids and grand kids. We know that felons, by a huge majority, will be against us...and could EASILY tip the scales into making this country a HORRIFIC PLACE - since all that is needed is a decade of Democrat control here.
So why do ANYTHING that advances their cause? That is my point here, and trust me, I don’t like blasting fellow FReepers, other than during the Primaries or Toll Roads (my only 2 exceptions) - and this is not one of those cases.

I trust the Democrats FAR MORE to look out for their interests than I do Republicans, who tried to sell us on the idea that AMNESTY would somehow work in our favor.

His proposal is to give those currently serving sentences the right to vote. Quite a difference.
I have talked to thousands of inmates. I’m not so sure Bernie and his staff have.
Typically inmates are conservative. They are law and order, except for their own sentence of course. Most inmates tell you they had a bad attorney or are innocent. The first excuse is probably true. Rich people always afford the best attorneys that’s the way it works.
Bernie is slow and behind times he must have never looked at the voters names for democrats list.
