Buttigieg Says Crying ‘Socialism’ is Tired: Obamacare Was a Conservative Idea...

Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg appeared on Good Morning America Thursday morning and addressed the “socialist” label in the frank and candid manner that has given rise to his upstart campaign. The focus of the conversation? Is the label “socialist” a liability in today’s political landscape?

George Stephanopoulos asked the South Bend Mayor about an essay he wrote in High School that ostensibly praised Bernie Sanders self-identifying as a “socialist” in context of the term being used by the right to vilify progressive candidates on the left. Buttigieg corrected the GMA anchor and said that the focus of his award-winning essay was for being honest for what he believed.

Buttigieg then pivoted to the term “socialist” calling out the right for unfairly using it to vilify political opponents. He then mentioned how President Donald Trump is “adopting a tactic that takes us baaing to the darkest days of the ’50s when you could use the word socialist to kill somebody’s career or to kill an idea” comparing it to the Boy Who Cried Wolf tale.

He then cited the example of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, which has been oft-derided as a socialist program. The roots of ACA were developed in conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation before first being rolled out by the then-Republican governor of Massachusettes Mitt Romney.

No, it was an idea put forth by a junior writer, who’s idea was to blunt the then talks about givernment takeover, in the hope of adding one more dumb idea to the discussion and end the takeover....

It is beginning to resemble the GOP line-up of 2012, which couldn't find a consistent front-runner

They're waiting for Terry McCauliffe/Michelle Obama, the team that covers all bases.

Health Equity and Access Reform Today of 1993 was a Repulican idea, it is similar to Obamacare in some key points, and it never even got voted on. Conservatives didn’t like it, the establishment Senators did.

Giving misinformation about socialism that is a disguise for Marxism is what these Marxist thieves do. This is not socialism that builds roads. They need that cover as they use every deceptive tactic to fight to be the top of the elite heap where they can control all of the marbles. They follow the model of the mob climbing for control at the top--the DemonCRAP Mob.

Not one republican voted for it.

I'm trying to be humorous about the idiotic notion that there is anything conservative about Obamacare or anything else that is not largely a free market solution to problems.

I would only counter, in this vein, that there are lots of conservative things that the Republican branch of the uniparty won't vote for.

Using a HS paper as a source? This is the very kind of thing we opposed for its absurdity with the Kavanaugh nomination. And Obamacare was a pro-corporate profiteers facist plan. Romney and others in that category have labeled themselves as conservative. In Facism, the gov controls your life, but its services go through for-profit businesses that reap huge profits. Forced insurance was indeed the model we got stuck with.

Truman the one who canned Mac, yielded to the USSR in Europe and forced housing projects on US cities and presided over several recessions?

That America-wrecking tool?

A conservative idea that the Dems voted for unanimously and not a single Pubbie did? LOL

Sure was. It was modeled after the Massachusetts law promoted by prominent conservative Mitt Romney in his attempt to groom himself for a 2008 presidential run. So he could say, "I fixed healthcare when I was Governor of Massachusetts."

Prominent conservative Mitt, cough, cough.

I knew as soon as I mentioned a couple D politicians that some criticisms would roll in.
Fine and dandy.
I only wanted to say that today’s D’s are NUTS.. whereas some former D’s were at least somewhat sane, connected to reality even if you or I did not approve of all of what they did or advocated

the Buttplug guy and the ineligible Harris woman and the Fake Injun Squaw and Mad Maxine Waters and several more today... appear cetifiably insane.

yes indeed.
nancy Pelousy somehow manages to get 103% compliance in her caucus... just like a good Communist party boss.....whereas the R’s can’t seem to manage 75 or 80% at critical times.... thereby punting, enabling the DimoCraps to continue to run Capitol Hill

ungood.
