Texas deer seem to be suicidal. They jump into the headlights.
Weird.
The phenomenon is well known in Michigan and can be explained. (#1 State in US for car/deer accidents for ~10 years running)
The deer see ^only^ the headlights coming at them, they cant see what’s behind or around the lights; the brightness super-saturates their retina and they become confused.
Their brains can establish the timing based on the speed of the lamps and so they attempt to jump over them, or in some cases, run across the road just behind the lamps.
