Not me

The femalions in my life are on my homepage

They care about how they look to their credit

I carry more unneeded weight than they do

Georgia Tech student radio WREK 91.1 FM has a show every week (Tuesday evenings) called the Longboard Show, it’s all surf music.

Hard to believe this singer would shortly be known as the King of the Surf Guitar.

Dick Dale's "Misirlou" is a far, far cry from the original, a song about a Greek who falls in love with an Egyptian girl and vows to "take her out of her Arab land."

Don’t forget the Tornados or Duane Eddy.

Which Tornados? These two different groups with the same name had hits at the same time

Bustin' Surfboards--The Tornados (1962)

Telstar--The Tornados (1962)

Thanks...the original is great...what a haunting song.

I found the lyrics (transliteration Greek to English) at "Misirlou" (Μισιρλού) (Egyptian Girl)

It says the title is a Greek pronunciation of the Turkish word "Mısırlı", which means "Egyptian girl" in Turkish.

The lyrics remind me of "Baby It's Cold Outside" in that they would drive the progs nuts - "Oh, I will kidnap you from inside Arabia."

As an Orange County resident at the time, my friends and I went down to Balboa to dance to Dick Dale and the Del Tones. I was also fortunate to have a good friend, “Butch” Hatfield who was the younger brother of Bobbie Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers which meant that when they first opened their act together in Santa Ana, I was there. Actually, Bobbie had a tremendous tenor voice and was our student body president in high school. My friend, Butch, actually had a great baritone voice. When I went to Butch’s funeral in 89-90 and I talked to Bobbie, I was devastated to learn of his early death. I have since noticed that Bobbie died recently on tour...good people!

Thin but with actual curves.

People ate fresh, real food with minerals and vitamins still in them then, and werent shoveling tons of sugars and instant meals down their gullets.

On the other hand, guitar folks liked G and A and so on.

So, their A, with 3 sharps became B with 5 sharps for me to accompany on a trumpet.

Big change after that orchestra scoring like you said. Usually never had more than 2 sharps there.

Sad to hear this.
He was a very gracious super talented man
Saw him at Brixton’s in 2011, on Redondo Beach pier, where surf music started 60 years ago.
Dick Dale played guitar so fast n furious the steel strings turned hot blue.
Watch him play guitar with his son

Although it was a big hit in Los Angeles,”Bustin Surfboards” failed to score east of Cajon Pass and didn’t even make the Billboard Hot 100. “Telstar,” on the other hand, went to #1 nationally.

In Southern California, charts put out by local radio stations that had both songs listed “Telstar” as being by the English Tornados. The “Bustin’ Surfboards” Tornados later changed their name to the Hollywood Tornados.
