University of Mississippi student government groups are calling for a Confederate soldier monument to be moved from a prominent spot on the Oxford campus to a Confederate cemetery in a secluded area behind a coliseum.
All 47 members of the Associated Student Body Senate voted unanimously on Tuesday in favor of a resolution asking administrators to move the statue, which has stood since 1906 in a park-like setting near the university's main administrative building.
The Confederate soldier statue was a rallying point in Oxford in 1962 for people who rioted to oppose court-ordered integration of the university.
The Graduate Student Council Senate adopted a similar resolution on Monday.

Good lord
Not I. We’ve had football season tickets for 30 years. My parents have had season tickets since my late father played football at Ole Miss from 1952 to 1956. Sadly, both my mother and my wife and I have decided not to renew our tickets or make anymore donations to the university. The Ole Miss that we once knew and loved is no longer. It wasn’t racist, it was just Southern.
I like you like the DSouza and Beck version of history cause its simple and easy for you
But our favorite conservatives of that era opposed the civil rights. Rap as well
They are not ding this to erase Democrat history
Thats silly
Lord a mercy
Man this thread really brings out the dumbasses on this forum its just not worth it
What percentage of three republic is strictly soundbote people
Guess what? When those 23,000+ students chose not to run for Student Senate, or to even vote for the Student Senate, they made their choice.
Apathy is the enemy of democracy.
Good to read a post from someone who knows his history.
The bulk of Lincoln's cabinet told him that if he sent those ships, it would result in a war. Major Anderson himself, when he found out about it, said this action by Lincoln was going to result in a war.
This business of calling it a "Supply Mission" was just bullsh*t propaganda for the benefit of the Northern states who might not have gone along with his agenda had they realized this "Supply Mission" consisted of mostly Warships with orders to attack if they were resisted.
The Northern public heard "supply mission" and "sending bread to Anderson", but the reality was that it was a direct and deliberate military provocation against the defenders of Charleston.
Republicans started the war. Republicans didn’t want people going free. Republicans were terrible bigots in the north. They also killed innocent Indians to have the land. Republicans also had slaves and were the slave runners in the US. Republicans stopped the south and others from banning the slave trade before the war started. The New England states always fought for the slave trade.
OMG, a SEA of Supremacists!!!

Yeah, still alive. We need some sanctuary property where these monuments can be moved to and preserved from these idiots trying to rewrite history. I’m certain there would be no lack of donations for such a project - so long as the cowardly half aren’t revealed.
I miss long beach soooo much...the old long beach...oilfields, McDonald Douglas, Navy Base, speeding down the T.I. freeway and crossing over the Commodore Hiem Bridge and looking at the old Ford plant down on the channel... and when el dorado park was a apple orchard
So many FRiends want to hang modern liberalism on old Democrats but it just doesn’t wash. If it were 1860, I sure wouldn’t be a Republican. But I’m one now and I’m sure not a Howard Baker Repub. I’m a Jesse Helms Repub.
Greetings from Lee County, Alabama WarDaddy.

The students are just passing through.
The Confederate Monument belongs to the taxpayers and citizens of Mississippi, not the students of Ole’ Miss. Push comes to shove, the snowflakes need their butts kicked in a court of law. Ole’ Miss’ administration needs to be reminded of who pays their salaries.
Thank you
Same to you
+1
Amen. And lets not forget the Democrats created The Ku Klux Klan.
