I’ve read several accounts of Sonic episode. No one explains why corporate came in to take over these privately owned operations. It might be curious to ask what happened. But once they came in...the district managers and individual operation managers were all laid off and new people brought in. Whatever the objective was in this process....it went negative real quick.
I know twenty years ago....Sonic operations were a fairly successful operation (You didn’t go broke, but you didn’t clear vast sums of money). Would be interesting to know if they’ve lost some of their charm.
“it started with a rumour that wages would be cut to half the minimum wage....
“
Yeah right. Like that’s going to happen.
I Always have liked Sonic. They are quick and efficient and make a good hamburger. I have no idea what the girls are paid. Without exception they have been extremely pleasant and courteous. They are mostly high school kids. They always get a nice tip.
know what? if you cant make $4/hr in tips you’re a slacker.
I’ll tip for full table service and deliveries. I do not tip for counter service, and I do not tip food runners.
I used to go to Sonic every couple months or so; now that I know they are expecting tips, I will not.
One of the many reasons I don’t go to starbucks is the tipping.
“it started with a rumour that wages would be cut to half the minimum wage.... “
And, none of the brain surgeons working at these restaurants thought it might be wise to wait and see what was actually giong to happen.
That’s why they’ll always be performing brain surgery at fast food restaurants.
“Entire staffs quit at Sonic drive-ins in Ohio over pay-cut rumor”
Yes, the Free Republic attack on the hated minimum wage worker is well underway. The Republicans are called the stupid party FOR A GOOD REASON.
My takeaway from this is that the economy just might be reaching a better place for lower income workers. If they can leave and find a better job for wages and work conditions, good for them!
Wonder what the two guys in the car in the commercial get paid? Everyone should be paid whether they work or not, and a living wage as well!
We used to joke about this thing back in my McD days. What would happen if we all walked out. We figured they’d borrow folks from other stores, hire the first 30 applicants through the door and be back to normal the next day.
