It’s well known that tackling climate change is one of Bernie Sanders’ signature policy planks as he again battles to become president of the United States. That fact was underlined by his campaign-launch video last week, which warned the Vermont senator would be taking on the fossil-fuel industry.
What’s less well-known is that Sanders insisted on using a private jet as he toured the U.S. in 2016 as a surrogate campaigner for Hillary Clinton, who had topped him for the Democratic nomination.
A new report by Politico quotes six former Clinton staffers and one other source as saying Sanders’ preference for flying private was a major source of tension between the two campaigns.
The senator prevailed, and continued using private planes over the last two years, spending at least $342,000 on the aircraft, says Politico. Climate scientists worry about air travel, which is growing steadily and whose effects on climate exceed, for various reasons, its actual CO-2 emissions.
Sanders has had some early good news, raising $10 million from more than 350,000 donors within a week of entering the Democratic primary fray.
But as one of the front runners in a crowded field of Democratic hopefuls, his past travel predilections — and the allegations of hypocrisy that inevitably flow from them — are likely to be a drag on the aerodynamics of his campaign.

Well, somebody said earlier this month that Bernie Sanders went to the Soviet Union for his honeymoon and never really returned. The newlyweds stayed in Yaroslavl and later he made Burlington its sister city. Da zhdravstvuyet!

Hillary’s people know this because it was part of Bernie’s payoff from Hillary for his support after the primary. Another beach house and he gets to ride in private planes while he campaigns for Hillary.
At least that’s what a I understood at the time.

It was well reported in Israel that Bernie Sanders was actually kicked out of a kibbutz for being to lazy. Now THAT’s a socialist!
