Great, gritty movie by Billy Wilder with a terrific performance by Kirk Douglas. Just watched it last week but didn’t make a connection with old Jussie.

Meet John Doe is another great movie about a media hoax.

Ace in the Hole is based on a true life event that occurred in the Mammoth Cave complex in south central Kentucky.

The 1976 epic film “Network” nailed the future of tv news with Howard Beale doing his best Bill O’Reilly pre-impression, psychics, pollsters, gossip reporters and “edgy” features supporting things like communist-front terror groups vaulting the fictional “UBS” into the top of news ratings.
If you haven’t watched it in awhile, do yourself a favor and cue it up again. It’s truly a mirror into what tv news has become.

Also check out ‘A Face in the Crowd’. It’s so much like Bubba Clinton you’d think it was written for him, but it was made in the 50’s!

Wow I remember that movie - and from long ago, maybe the 60’s.

Great film that was originally released as “The Big Carnival”. A Paramount executive changed the name without talking to Billy Wilder, then it was switched back to “Ace in the Hole” when TCM aired it years later.

I find it hard to believe that Kirk Douglas would die from a scissor stab. He’d need at least 30-40 bullet holes to die.
