The actor suspected of faking a hate crime against himself has a criminal record — for providing false information to authorities.
NBC News reported Tuesday that “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett pleaded no contest to several charges in 2007 in Los Angeles, one of which was providing false information to authorities.
Citing a Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman, NBC reported that Mr. Smollett was sentenced to two years probation in the case, which also included a DUI count and a charge of driving without a license.
The city attorney’s office confirmed the convictions to NBC News, though there was no immediate elaboration on what the false information was.
But, citing “multiple law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation,” NBC News reported that the Chicago Police Department has requested the details from their counterparts in Los Angeles.

I rather doubt that the vast majority of the American populace has hear of Jussi Bjorling. And the ONLY reason that I know of him and have heard recordings of him, is that I come from a long line of opera lovers, who talked about "THE GREATS" and even debated about who was better than the others. And they also knew a few opera stars, whom I also knew as a kid and as a young adult; not to mention the fact that my parents lived in the same apartment building as Renata Tibaldi and errily, you could hear her practicing in their guest bathroom, through the air vent. Not a pleasant thing at all; quite discomfiting actually!

Hardly, since IIRC Jussi has a brother named Justin.
Also Tuesday, a group of mothers who lost their sons to violence and whose cases remain unsolved gathered to speak out about the amount of resources dedicated to the Smollett case rather than their sons’ unsolved cases.
