Empire star Jussie Smollett has furiously denied paying two Nigerian brothers $3,500 to attack him and says he is 'angered and devastated' after investigators in Chicago claimed he orchestrated his own assault.
Smollett’s attorneys, Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson, told Entertainment Weekly: 'As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with.
'He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.'
THE FULL STATEMENT FROM JUSSIE SMOLLETT’S ATTORNEYS Lawyers Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson issued the following statement on Jussie's behalf on Saturday night: 'As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with. 'One of these purported suspects was Jussie’s personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video. It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie’s complicity.
'Jussie and his attorneys anticipate being further updated by the Chicago Police Department on the status of the investigation and will continue to cooperate. At the present time, Jussie and his attorneys have no inclination to respond to “unnamed” sources inside of the investigation, but will continue discussions through official channels

Yes. I think his Smollet’s attorneys will try to pin the planning of the assault on other nefarious actors. Smollet didn’t know anything about it. He thought he was paying the Nigerians for physical training.

Filing a false report to police in the State of Illinois, as Smollett apparently did, is considered an act of disorderly conduct, which is a Class 4 felony.
That means that anyone found guilty could face 1-3 years in prison.
By law, the crime of disorderly conduct is committed in Illinois by anyone who ‘transmits or causes to be transmitted in any manner to any peace officer, public officer or public employee a report to the effect that an offense will be committed, is being committed, or has been committed, knowing at the time of the transmission that there is no reasonable ground for believing that the offense will be committed, is being committed, or has been committed.’
A central Illinois man was recently sentenced to three years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to fabricating an Amber alert about a child inside a car that was carjacked.
I would add to that list Al Sharpton’s Tawana Brawley.

They are going to say the Smollett paid for the airline tickets for his 2 Nigerian buds to visit their home in Nigeria. Nothing to see here. The authorities will accept that and the cash distribution will be forgotten.
And if we doubt it, they will point to the fact that the 2 Nigerian doofuses came right back to Chicago into the waiting arms of the Chicago PD. They will as, “What kind of a criminal does this?” The answer, of course, is that real life criminals make mistakes like this all the time. They aren’t rocket-surgeons. But the bulk of the public has a mentality shaped by watching too many police crime shows on TV.
