Empire star Jussie Smollett has furiously denied paying two Nigerian brothers $3,500 to attack him and says he is 'angered and devastated' after investigators in Chicago claimed he orchestrated his own assault.
Smollett’s attorneys, Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson, told Entertainment Weekly: 'As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with.
'He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.'
THE FULL STATEMENT FROM JUSSIE SMOLLETT’S ATTORNEYS Lawyers Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson issued the following statement on Jussie's behalf on Saturday night: 'As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with. He has now been further victimized by claims attributed to these alleged perpetrators that Jussie played a role in his own attack. Nothing is further from the truth and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.
'One of these purported suspects was Jussie’s personal trainer who he hired to ready him physically for a music video. It is impossible to believe that this person could have played a role in the crime against Jussie or would falsely claim Jussie’s complicity.
'Jussie and his attorneys anticipate being further updated by the Chicago Police Department on the status of the investigation and will continue to cooperate. At the present time, Jussie and his attorneys have no inclination to respond to “unnamed” sources inside of the investigation, but will continue discussions through official channels

He orchestrated the hoax to boost his career. The media willingly supported the hoax for weeks. Now that it has come out, the media will report on the hoax once, then drop it.

Trust me. The Chicago PD is not amused. Neither are the Feds. Lying to the Feds is a serious crime worthy of a SWAT raid covered by CNN.

Yes. One report said he did. So there’s at least one crime.
He also said he received a hate letter that included white powder. Powder turned out to be Tylenol. But fake letter is also a federal crime.
He’s probably telling the truth.

Smollett is obviously suffering from Stage 4 TDS. He not only reported a fake hate crime, he planned, conspired, and paid for it. What a moron. If he wanted publicity, he could have made a $7,000 donation to a homeless shelter or a hospital. Done something actually positive. But no, his thinking is so warped, this is the best "plan" he comes up with.
This is the headline I have been waiting for. It was inevitible.
