The Houston officer who led a deadly raid in which a couple were killed and five cops were injured lied to get a search warrant, according to the city's police chief.
Lead investigator Gerald Goines alleged an informant bought heroin at the house of Dennis Tuttle, 59, and Rhogena Nicholas, 58, the day before the January 28 raid. The informant had also allegedly seen a handgun in the home.
But according to an affidavit filed as part of the ongoing investigation into the raid and made public Friday, the informant told investigators he or she had not bought any drugs at the home and had not been involved in any work leading up to the raid.

I am a Houston resident.
In the past, I had a lot of respect for the professionalism of HPD, even in the face of leadership that amounted to no more than grandstanding politicians (Lee P Brown, Elizabeth Watson).
Now with Arthur the @$$hole as chief, that respect is gone.
BTW I had an encounter with the chief when he was in Austin. 2015 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships at Zilker Park.
This just reveals how abusive the 4th Amendment jurisprudence has become. An officer wanting a search warrant simply has to swaer an affadavit alleging hearsay and he gets a warrant.
This is one time when I’d settle for “prison justice” for this louse.
Much worse at Federal level. Just look at the witch hunt of the Trump administration being conducted on him by his own subordinates.

Acevedo is a POS. He used to be over in Austin, where he was also a POS. He hasn’t changed.
He was just the one that got caught lying.

The District Attorney will rule that the shooting was justified. And if the Officer happened to lie, so what? No one is perfect. The other two souls are still dead.

Isn’t it more likely the informant lied?
On one of the early threads someone asserted that to get such a warrant the cops would have to search the informant before the buy, keep him under solid surveillance going into and out of the buy, and search him immediately after the buy.
Either someone lied about this procedure being followed, or the informant lied about buying drugs or the informant is lying about lying about buying drugs.
We know the cop was enabled to get away with a road rage murder, maybe he figured he'd be enabled to get away with a cold blooded home invasion murder or two?

He didn’t intend to break the law, so it’s OK.
Why a narc cop lied to a judge to get a search/arrest warrant may be something like this: the cop was getting bribe money from those dealing narcotics but the dealers threatened to disclose this for some reason. The cop had to shut them up some way. Plausible.
Plain clothesand I thought is was a no-knock raid. Did they identify themselves as cops after shooting the dog?
Did they say it in spanish or english?
No, because the informant had nothing to gain from telling the truth, and a lot to lose. At this point he certainly isn't on the "friendly source" list of the PD officers who were involved in the raid. And he knows that they will lie to set up a raid and then shoot two people that they knew should not have been the subject of a raid.
How would you feel about ratting out a group of corrupt cops involved in a double homicide vs. just going along with them?
The informant is in a tough place, telling the truth instead of going along with the lie is not something that benefits him or her.
Yep those with authority should be held to a much higher standard

That’s what would happen to the get away driver who didn’t haver a gun, and never left the car while his cohort shot the 7-11 clerk.
Of course the same rules apply in a case of home invasion and murder under color of authority.
Just like commercial drivers are. They are held to a higher standard and given seriously steeper penalties than normal drivers because “they are expected to know better”.
Some day they might be asking the same question about how you or I was chosen.
I'm guessing an Ocasio-Cortez (or equivalent) administration will not look kindly on FReepers, but who would ever make that connection?
