Isn’t it more likely the informant lied?

No, because the informant had nothing to gain from telling the truth, and a lot to lose. At this point he certainly isn't on the "friendly source" list of the PD officers who were involved in the raid. And he knows that they will lie to set up a raid and then shoot two people that they knew should not have been the subject of a raid.

How would you feel about ratting out a group of corrupt cops involved in a double homicide vs. just going along with them?

The informant is in a tough place, telling the truth instead of going along with the lie is not something that benefits him or her.

I’d advise that informant not to meet with any cops in a remote location, especially after dark.
