If I recall correctly, Weld won the governorship against John Silber - one of the only Democrats ever that I ever considered voting for. If not for Silber's whack-job running mate (Marjorie Claprood), I might have gone for him over Weld.
Also, when Weld was re-elected in 1994, he tied one on pretty good for his victory party. His victory speech was incoherent and sloppy. You used to be able to find that on YouTube but it looks like it's been scrubbed from the Internet for the most part.

Primary challenges traditionally hurt incumbent Presidents.
He’s hasn’t lost his mind, he’s trying to soften Trump up for Com-Allah Harris, pure and simple. But unlike the most recent primary challengers (Buchanan, to Bush’s right) (Kennedy to Carter’s left) he’s attacking from the direction opposite to the party’s base so the effect won’t be the same.
