Investors Business Daily ^ | 14 Feb 2019 | GILLIAN RICH

Production on the Airbus A380 superjumbo jet will end, and deliveries will stop in 2021 after Airbus (EADSY) renegotiated an order with Emirates, the largest A380 customer.

...The Airbus A380 entered commercial service just 11 years ago and can only be accommodated at about a dozen airports worldwide due to its size.

...Meanwhile, the Boeing 747 looks to live on, even as demand from carriers also shrinks.

... guidelines, not actual rules...

I would like to tout that line, but I know that’s a slippery slope leading to the Tower of Babel.

I never had any large respect for good spelling. That is my feeling yet. Before the spelling-book came with its arbitrary forms, men unconsciously revealed shades of their characters and also added enlightening shades of expression to what they wrote by their spelling, and so it is possible that the spelling-book has been a doubtful benevolence to us.

Mark Twain

If a literary genius like Mark Twain cares nothing for the conscriptions of accepted spelling conventions, why should we?

I didn’t notice you misspelling of Boeing until you pointed it out.

Re the Short 360, indeed a miserable and slow airplane. I flew on one a couple times in the 1980s as well, operated by Dash Air, long defunct. For overall consistency of the experience, their ground staff and procedures stank in every respect at both ends of each flight. Thanks a lot - you have resurrected some bad memories ... :-)

Your post reminded me of the best puddle jumper I ever took, an American Eagle Dash-8, made by Bombardier out of Canada. It was a turboprop but flew much like a jet. Very comfortable.

Never flew the Short although I think the most lumbering flight I ever took was in a seaplane from Ft. Lauderdale to the Bahamas. Often flew the DC3 and always enjoyed the Gooney Bird.....telling my age now, aren’t I? :)
On long flights now I will fly only the Dreamliner. There is definitely a difference in jet lag.

If you fly to Europe, fly Norwegian if you can. They still have great customer service and don’t treat you like cattle. They fly the Dreamliner out of Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, New York and a few other places. Flying more like it used to be.

The last Dash 8 I flew was in the Bahamas. It was a rust bucket that squeaked and rattled. I thought for sure parts were coming off of it in flight.

Meant that that the us based air lines treat you that way - not the other international carriers...in general.

The Bombardier has a very stout tubo prop...and a very impressive history of flying aircraft!
