Good for Them!
When I married My wife and I went to Door County Wi. We arrived (May) and there had been a Winnebago fly hatch. (Like giant mosquitos) They said not to worry, was a week old and should be over. It lasted for 5 more days. They don’t bite. You breathe them and they go Crunch as you walk through the drifts of dead flies!
(Here is a link for coming summer days!)
Reminds me of when that North Country has brought out snowplows in May to scrape off mayflies so roads wouldn’t be so slippery. Amazing!
I Quickly checked out the www.troutnut.com site and they show the mayfly hatch. We certainly get that hatch too. I guessing that’s what you are calling the Winnebago hatch.
(Side note I grew up in Nebraska not far from the Winnebago Indian Reservation. Played them in High School sports.)
I’ve never breathed a mayfly in, but I sure am familiar with the crunching sound.
MR “mayflies” or fish flies. Not black flies.
And the biting gnats are always bad in the warm months.
