**************************************************
“An afterburner is a component present on some jet engines, mostly those used on military supersonic aircraft. Its purpose is to provide an increase in thrust, usually for supersonic flight, takeoff, and combat situations.”

If you look at photos of jet afterburners on the internet, and the photo posted by Qanon, they appear to be alike.

Note the definition above from Wikipedia: to provide an increase in thrust, usually for supersonic flight, takeoff, and “combat situations”.

If afterburners have been employed for combat, something is about to happen, and pretty soon.

Most likely. Generally those shock diamonds seen are from afterburner use.

Afterburner means injection of fuel downstream (after) the turbine, and provides for big additional power but at prodigious fuel use rates so this state is used sparingly.

The Brits call the afterburner “reheat”.

Interestingly the F-22 Raptor can cruise at supersonic speeds without reheat.
