In record speed, the non-partisan Voter Participation Center (VPC) has helped more than 58,000 California citizens register to vote in less than a week. VPC’s records show that 58,488 Californians already have returned the applications to state election officials, the first step on the way to voter registration. It’s part of a nationwide voter registration drive, with VPC mailing millions of registration applications this month to prospective voters in 18 states.

More than 160,000 voters have already cast their votes this year, with about 58,000 using the mail and 107,000 headed to early voting at their county election board offices. The Oklahoma State Election Board released the figures Monday. During the 2014 election, 26,000 used mail ballots and about 44,000 voted in person early.

Davidson County in the Greater Nashville area made up a sizable portion of those gains, seeing a large increase in both Democrats and Republicans turning up to the polls early this year. The county nearly doubled the amount of early votes it had compared to four years ago with a total of 58,000 early votes this year.

RE: Voting and ballots-58,000 does seem to be a recurring number. I wonder why?
This post reminded me of something unusual that happened here even though totally unrelated. Our turnout here was so huge that we ran out of ballots. Some people waited in line for an hour or more only to be told that there were no ballots.
No one seems to know how this was handled or how many people were involved. Never heard of this in our county, but I think the turnout was because of the constitutional amendment to make medical wacky backy legal.
