We have had one minor snowstorm, and now a string of 40+ degree weather. It was 100 degrees in the (closed up) greenhouse the other day! Of course, it goes down to freezing each evening.

Beau says I should grow succulents and desert plants in there in the winter; they can take the abuse!

Other than that, I’m still processing winter squash. This week I am making Pumpkin Sauce (for Pasta) and will crank out a couple of Pumpkin Spice loaves, too.

I couldn’t take it anymore and have started a flat of Micro Greens (lettuces, arugula, spinach, chard, kale) for snipping in 35-40 days and a new batch of sprouts for sandwiches and salads. Now I’m hungry for an Egg Salad Sandwich on wheat with sprouts! ;)

A friend and I are doing a ‘challenge’ to see how many days out of the year we can eat SOMETHING either fresh or preserved from our garden/land/animals/hens. So far, I am 4 for 6 days into 2019! She had a remarkable 234 days out of 365 last year from her small suburban garden! I am also including wild game & fish, as we eat so much of it, and also Fungi because I have a lot of wild-harvested Golden Oyster and Morel mushrooms frozen and dehydrated.

Pretty much anything you didn’t have to buy at the grocery store is fair game, IMHO. Should be interesting and will make me think of ways to beat my score next season. ;)

It’s that freezing at night that I don’t like. We used clear plastic to section off a small space and have an electric heater on low. I put a crockpot with the lid off on the table with the plants to keep the humidity in range.

So far it works. As a trade off, I have not turned on the base heaters except in the bathroom. Hoping to keep the electric bill roughly the same.
