"Political parties exist to secure responsible government and to execute the will of the people. From these great tasks both of the old parties have turned aside. Maybe they weren’t all there all at once.

We could get 50 to 70 people in our downstairs rooms, I suppose, if we moved out some of the furniture and the lizard cages. Mr. Strong’s house would probably have the kitchen and some storage space in the basement, “public rooms” (free of lizards and cat boxes and school desks) on the ground floor, family bedrooms and a children’s playroom on the second floor, staff bedrooms and more storage on the 3rd floor. It wouldn’t have to be a lot bigger than mine (2,400 sqft.) to have room for hosting a pretty big gathering.
