Jocko; Thats a lot of trees! (I do not think I have ever lived anyplace that has not had a cottonwood within 300 yards of where I lived!)

You need to cut them down young, and don’t stick the branches in the dirt! ( I used a cottonwood branch as a stake once and it sprouted!)

Agreed. When the big bucks folks bought the 'bottom land'--river bottom--they cut down a lot of the cottonwoods willy-nilly. Making no use of the merit in cutting down all the cotton producing ones. Dumb.

I forget--I think it's salt cedar that soaks up so much water in the Southwest. Cottonwoods do fair at that, too, IIRC.
