Agreed. When the big bucks folks bought the 'bottom land'--river bottom--they cut down a lot of the cottonwoods willy-nilly. Making no use of the merit in cutting down all the cotton producing ones. Dumb.

I forget--I think it's salt cedar that soaks up so much water in the Southwest. Cottonwoods do fair at that, too, IIRC.

Cedars, mesquite and cottonwoods are notorious water hogs.

You can cut them down in a neighborhood, and that makes sense, but there is a whole lot of country for them to reproduce at will!
