10 tanks that changed the history of armored warfare The tank was introduced in World War I when Britain unveiled the then-secret weapon against German forces and were able to run these rolling fortresses right over German barbed wire and trenches, firing cannons and machine guns into German fortifications. Now, armored columns are a commander's fist, punching holes in enemy lines and then rushing through them to annihilate enemy formations.

I think the Panther has to be on that list somewhere. In several ways better than the T-34 and Sherman and attributed to be the design many post WW2 tanks were predicated upon.
I want one of those little one man Japanese tanks I have seen in the movies. Great prep tool.
I’m sure they were all melted down long ago but someone should start producing them again.
After they got the kinks out of it, the Panther was the best tank of the war.
I read somewhere that the Tiger if properly fitted to today’s standards, IR and Range Finder could stand up to an Abrahms.
Of course the article could have been horse chit!
Whatever tanks Saddam was using are historical in that people realized that tanks are useless without air cover.
“If the Russians learn to mass produce this tank, Germany will lose the war.”
A German general, who witnessed the T-34 close up, during the opening days of Operation Barbarossa.
But I wouldnt want one shooting at me!

Exactly. The RPGs in Iraq could make a quick end to an Abrahms if hit in the right place. So if a Tiger got a perfect shot it might take it out or cripple it. But I spoke to soon. You are right. The M1A1 would tear it to shreds.
Tanks are terribly limited these days.
Remembering I have no military knowledge outside what I have read....
The Char-B was the tank the Germans feared at the outset of the war. It’s thick armor and protected sides made it virtually indestructible in a frontal or flank attack. It wasn’t until the Germans discovered that damned ventilation(?) grill on the side that they had a reliable way to kill the Char-B.
Like every other non-German tank of the time the tank commander was also the main gunner. He had to manually sight his shot raising and lowering the gun with his shoulder!
Unfortunately the French high command was defense minded and relied on the Maginot Line to keep Germany out.
De Gaulle had written the book for the French on the use of armor but it wasn’t until all else failed that they let him put together an armored division and make a fight of it.
The Char-B should get an honorable mention. Nothing more.
I agree the Tiger was overrated. Too heavy for the bridges, too slow to keep up with the Panthers and engineered to death. I think it got on the list because Hollywood turned it into a monster in every WW2 film ever made.
Did the South Vietnamese have warthogs? Are warthogs prevented from flying by the type of anti-aircraft support the North provided their tank and infantry invasion of 1972 Easter Offensive?
(just curious)
I stood next to a Mark VI Tiger I about a year ago, at a WWII weekend event. It made a fearsome impression, for sure. The driver started up the engine, and the only word to describe it that came to mind was a “roar”. You could “feel” that motor vibrating your chest.
There was also an M4 Sherman there, with the long barreled 76, the “Easy Eight” version (similar to the one in “Fury”).
Cool!
What’s the Name of that Flick,,,?
I Stumped.
Of Course,,
I’m can’t believe I spaced it!
