For Murphy Brown, the rebooted series was always intended to be a closed-ended order of 13 episodes. The multicamera comedy, featuring the return of star Candice Bergen and from original creator Diane English, has underperformed (6.2 million total viewers and a 0.9 in the key 18-49 demo) in its prime Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. slot and remains in consideration for a renewal. Fellow multicamera comedy Fam, starring Nina Dobrev and Tone Bell — which has already changed showrunners — will take over Murphy Brown's slot starting Thursday, Jan. 10.

Few people in their key 18-49 demo even REMEMBER Murphy Brown.

So, they knowingly put out a failure.

Because they planned a limited run?

British TV does that all the time and nobody faults them for it.

Some people are praise the Brits for quitting before they absolute have to.

Not everything has to run until people are sick of it.

In this case, people were sick of the show to begin with, so not trying to stretch its run out to eternity was a wise move.

It filled a hole for a while in a schedule of stuff that wasn't really much better or more original.

I doubt the replacement will last much longer - and that won't be intentional.

I don't know what 'Happy Together' is, but I am SO happy the leftist Murphy Brown crap show got axed.

Have 'The Conners' (without Roseanne Barr) been canceled yet??

Meanwhile, 'Last Man Standing' -- starring conservative actor Tim Allen -- is a big hit with great ratings.

Schadenfreude! ;-)

Yeah, the mention of a “closed-ended order of 13 episodes” makes it sound as if that’s all they were ever going to do, even if the show was successful. There’s not an actor, producer, or TV executive in Hollywood that would only make 13 episodes of a TV show if there was a audience for it. In fact, it’s almost always the opposite- TV shows last until the ratings are unacceptable.

Executives make decisions every day.

“Will this make us money, or lose us money?”

If an executive makes a decision that he knows will cause the business to lose money, then why did he make that decision?

Safety concerns? Long-term payoff? Public goodwill?

Propaganda.

I hope the businesses that advertised with this show lose their shirts.

With 72-year-old star who has enough trouble getting around and saying her lines as it is? How many seasons do you think Candice Bergen has left in her even if the show clicked with audiences?

There's been talk about a limited-run Cheers reboot. And it may just happen. And it may just succeed where this thing failed. But do you really think Ted Danson wants to be tied down for another eleven years playing the same role?

TV's in flux and "limited-run series" are now part of the mix. I get that the impulse is to say, "Bah, CBS failed with this!" but CBS fails with so much that this is just one more example of getting stuff wrong.

Murphy Brown = pure pile of steaming, leftist excrement.

Good riddance, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
