President Trump on Wednesday said he has a solution to the abortion rights debate, but did not provide details.
At a wide-ranging and sometimes confrontational press conference following the midterm elections, Trump was asked how he would push forward with his anti-abortion agenda, as promised during the campaign.
I wont be able to explain that to you, Trump said. Because it is an issue that is a very divisive, polarizing issue. But there is a solution, I think that I have that solution. And nobody else does."
The debate over abortion rights is seeing renewed energy following the confirmation of Trumps latest nominee to the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh.
Kavanaugh, a conservative justice, is seen as a potential tie-breaker to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, which legalized abortion in the U.S., should the opportunity arise.
The president offered other vague information about his next moves following the midterms, including potential Cabinet shake-ups and his response to Democrats possibly seeking his tax returns.
Yeah, kick it back to the states. 150 years ago the country split along the fault line of slavery, maybe the same should happen on abortion, although the divide would not be north/south. Sometimes you wonder if the U.S. will divide like ancient Israel. The more corrupt northern kingdom fell quickly, the southern kingdom took a little longer.
“... penumbras and emanations ...”
Obviously Justice Brennan felt the need to consult a text on Solar Physics in writing his decision! I can see where that would be useful.
do I really need the sarcasm tag?
Not a male - but I think free vasectomies to men who don’t want children would be a good start. Also free tubal ligations to promiscuous women who are likely to abort.
What part of right to life is not easily understandable? Grant unborn babies full civil rights.
refreshed is exactly right. I’d be opposed to abortion even if the Constitution was silent on the matter. But the Constitution is NOT silent. The 5th and 14th amendments are quite clear in guaranteeing that no person shall be deprived of their life without due process. The 14th Amendment also adds the explicit requirement that all states provide equal protection of the law to all persons. Every elected official swears an oath to support and defend the Constitution. Any chief executive of any jurisdiction could ban abortion in that jurisdiction, by recognizing that we’re all persons from the earliest stage of our individual biological development. If you’ve never looked up the definition of the word “person”, I urge all of good will to do so, and urge your state’s Governor to do so too. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to support a candidate for president in 2012 and 2016 who promised to use every lawful means to require that no abortions be performed under color of law, starting on Day 1 of his administration. That candidate was fellow FReeper Tom Hoefling of Iowa. Volunteers across the nation did what it took to ensure that votes for Tom would be counted and talked in enough states to win the Electoral College. I helped in that effort in my home state of Maryland in 2012. I tried to help in that effort in my new home state of South Carolina in 2016. We succeeded in Maryland, but failed in South Carolina.
Abort demoncraps after the fact
Why not force the WH press corps to watch a fetal sonogram video, before asking any questions, to begin every press conference?
End abortion, or God will! It should be our #1 priority, once the means to do so are in place.
Oh, come on now. EVEN IN A COMMITTED MARRIAGE, a woman has the right to change her mind after conception EVEN after an agreement with the husband. This is about legal principle.
Don’t be a slut and take responsibility for your sexual actions??
Sadly, that makes way too much sense for many to understand.
Little babies lack cognitive ability, too young anyway to vote, not live born, no names or certificates of live birth, BUT concievitly entitled to recognition as being alive.
let me see if I understand this. if only a few hundred unborn babies are butchered by married woman, as opposed to a universe of those done to unmarried women, than the children slaughtered by married women are less deserving of governmental protection than the children of the latter?
I don’t place a value on innocent human life that accords with the value that the killers place on it.
The Nazi’s had a similar understanding. “Lebens Und Vertes Lebens.” (Life Unworthy of Life)
According to the Guttmacher Institute, among married women, 4% of pregnancies end in abortion.
54 million lives gone since Roe vs. Wade. That is a lot of innocent lives for government to protect. It seems to me that is a primary duty for it.
Is he baiting the baby killers to open a conversation by asking what it is?
It’s not clear how you define the word “person”. It is clear that your mention of such things as certificates and eligibility to vote reflect a perspective very different than expressed as self-evident Truth in our Declaration of Independence: we’re endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights, including the right to life.
A possible way to end abortions can be thru the usage of laws that disallow harming an unborn with drugs or alcohol. By introducing legislation that piggybacks upon this current law(s) abortion can be construed to be harmful to the unborn by activities or actions willful or unwillful that result in the death of the unborn fetus.
