I believe that as our country has moved away from our Judeo-Christian heritage we have become more susceptible to the ideas of/within communism, a system in which government is god.

Ya hit one of my buttons. I had the experience of traveling behind the Iron Curtain before the wall came down. The experience stays with me. No food in the small stores opening to the street. Americans were told never to buy groceries there. Food was scarce.
Ambling past a storefront open to the street, one could see the empty shelves. Lines for a piece of bread. Weary ppl waiting. Silent. Interacting with the grayness of it all. Even the sky was often gray. Stones in the street without joyous reflection— perhaps a warning that the journey was to nowhere.
Studying the flat, pebble-filled street was the fate of turned down faces. Regrets turned the shoulders down to examine hope lost. Still, once in a while...someone was not quiet. They stirred our souls and we remembered the other way to live.
Scarves for hats. Many scarves. No richness of color in the clothes. Hoping the line would move so one could shuffle the feet and keep the blood circulating. Hands clasping a purse close with regimentation. A rote, ruinous recitation written to counter the creative. The sameness of it all.
Admittedly, I was already convinced it was a poor system that robbed the soul.
However, to see it up close, even somewhat, had a profound effect. It wasn’t just academic thinking.
Never, ever felt the breath of freedom so deeply as when I crossed back to the West. The beautiful West.
The grocery stores. Cars built with steel. Wardrobes to reflect the person. How much better ppl looked. Color in their cheeks. Ppl moving with purpose and plan. The dance of democracy. A symphony hall spilling over into the street and filled to the rafters with melodies of men free, punctuated with a catchy capitalist beat. No apologies.
When the wall came down, I and a friend with whom I traveled felt the ripples of deliverance cross the oceans. How we wished for a stone of the wall to touch. We offered praise to the God Who says the king’s heart is like a river in His hands. A miracle had happened.
The bondage I felt behind that curtain was deeply spiritual. Physical. Emotional. Affecting my mind as if I were partially wrapped in some invisible blanket not big enough to protect from the hopelessness that had crippled a generation. I couldn’t hide behind the covers.
Unreal.
Anyway... I will continue to pray for President Trump as he meets with Putin. May our incredible POTUS be empowered to accomplish even more... for us, for Russia. As God wills.”

I’m with you on Ted. If you’ll recall, nobody was very happy when it came down to Mr. Trump and Mr. Cruz. We knew they were going to have to take their shirts off and get in the cage and slug it out, but that wasn’t a sight any of us wanted to see. Very glad Ted came around. Mr. Trump has the quality of being gracious to those he defeats. I appreciate that because it helps get things done. Use as only as much nasty as you have to to win, then go straight back to being Mr. Nice Guy. No better friend, no worse enemy.

As of 8:58EST using Firefox the HRC/Byrd meme is broken for me. The other images in The Oracle are ok. Strange thing, I can copy image location and enter into a new tab in my browser and it displays. I can try to reply to your post within FR with your meme link and the image crashes in “preview”. I wonder if FR’s html is causing some miscommunication with the outside servers the image is located on?

There are two CloudFront servers in San Jose and maybe the calls for those memes has gone over the contract service totals, ie, overwhelmed capacity. Just a guess.
Why some can see them while others can’t may be due whatever part ot the country they live and other factors. Gets way more complex than that(including “blacklisting” by any of the parties involved), but as deep as I want to guess on or feebly explain.

According to Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and her colleagues, there are typically five stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. Looking around at the effusions of the Left and the NeverTrump former Right, I’d say that President Trump’s most excitable opponents are just now caught somewhere between anger and bargaining. In fact, it is the prospect of the midterms that opened the door for them onto the corridor between anger and bargaining. If only the Democrats sweep the midterm elections, they say to themselves, then we can put this awful anomaly, this hideous wrinkle in the order of the universe, behind us.
Some such sentiment, I believe, was behind all the talk of a coming “blue wave” last spring and into the summer. I never believed that there would be such a cerulean tsunami, especially one that would sweep Democrats into control of the Senate. The House? Maybe. But even that seems to me to be increasingly doubtful.
Adamant anti-Trump and NeverTrump commentators have circulated and then taken solace from the Blue Wave meme not because they are especially credulous, but because the election of Donald Trump offended their sense of existential propriety. The unforgivable datum is that Donald Trump, as I have said many times, was elected without their permission and indeed over their strenuous objections. That is the intolerable insult they cannot abide. It was an event that not only should not have happened but could not have happened. Hence the widespread access of denial, followed by anger, that greeted the advent of this great anomaly.
The midterms seem to offer a chance to set the universe back on its proper track. “The time is out of joint,” you can hear these wretched Hamlets mumble, “O cursèd spite,/ That ever I was born to set it right!” I don’t know what the self-help gurus have to say about instances when grief is is not allowed to mellow into acceptance but is met by fresh assaults and griefs compounded. I will note, however, that that is often the way of the world. Claudius mournfully acknowledged this when confronted with Ophelia’s madness: “When sorrows come, they come not single spies, but in battalions.”
I do not of course know what is going to happen next Tuesday. But if, as seems to me increasingly likely, the Republicans hold the House, the anti-Trump and NeverTrump fraternity will be dealt a cruel blow. Not only will they have lost, not only will their confident predications have been in vain, but their entire sense of the way the world works will have been further undermined. The thing that was impossible, that could not have happened, will have turned out to be not an inexplicable singularity but a corroboration of a new dispensation — a dispensation, moreover, that has no place for them.

Add that to the fact I pointed out yesterday that the Soviet Union was founded in the same (or about) year as we got the Income Tax, Direct Election of Senators, and the Fed. When is a coincidence beyond the realm of possibility?
