Another hard hitter: Rene Didn’t Do It (Russ Ballard)

Heavy? Hard to top Heep’s “Pilgrim”. Strong intro, great bridge, and then they finally just run you over like a tank...

Another memorable intro is Ozzy’s “Crazy Train”, although I read somewhere that Sharon Osbourne ripped off Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley for the credits on that one.

When it comes to more melodic, Prelude 12 / Suite Madame Blue (Styx) IMO deserves honorable mention for its intro, too.

Other great intros by Clapton:

Motherless Children, Bad Love, Crossroads...aw heck, what song of Clapton's didn't have a great intro?

Addicted to Love, Robert Palmer
Same Old Scene, Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music
Long Way There, Little River Band
Slow Down, The Beatles
Come Together, The Beatles
25 or 6 to 4, Chicago
Single Handed Sailor, Dire Straits
Chameleon, Herbie Hancock
Celebration Day, Led Zeppelin
My City Was Gone, Pretenders
The Pusher, Steppenwolf
Night Train, Steve Winwood
Couldn't Stand the Weather, Stevie Ray Vaughan
Lawyers, Guns and Money, Warren Zevon
Siberian Khatru, Yes

All of the above were plucked from my iPhone. Yeah, I know...I never advanced musically beyond the 80s. lol

Folks, there have been many good suggestions here.

Now I present the BEST rock ‘n’ roll intro ever.

“Born to Be Wild” by Steppenwolf.

Admit it, I’m right.

It’s 96 tears and the intro is pretty much how the rest of the song goes. The keyboardist musta had only one finger.

Bohemian Rhapsody while driving.

Siberian Khatru by Yes is usually the first song on the playlists I listen to during my walks. High energy, kick ass song...by the time it's over, I'm more than a half mile from my house and ready to go 7-9 more miles.

Another intro that really sets the mood for the song is the intro to “White Hot” by Red Ryder.

Nobody mentioned Inna Gadda Da Vida’s intro yet?

“Pirates” ELP

Hard to find any decent live versions of YES or ELP. I think 1) concerts during prime years are old; 2) the complexity of the music is difficult to get.
