I might check it out. The trailer wasn’t HD, though, nor would I expect it to be for a movie made in the mid-80’s. Is the quality of the video of the film any better than that of the trailer?

Been there.

I know Steve Railsback and his wife, Marcia. Great couple and such a nice, grateful guy!

Ah, I remember “Lifeforce,” and the book it was adapted from: “The Space Vampires.”

Curious. The book was about the discovery and study and use of the ‘lifeforce’, and energy generated and exchanged by human beings. The scientific study of the lifeforce becomes essential when space exploration turns up the titular space vampires, a branch of the human race which does not generate its own lifeforce, but is parasitic on the humans who do.

The movie, in spite of the title, leaves out almost all of the speculative fiction about the lifeforce and lifeforce research, and leaves only the part about the parasitic vampires from outer space. So, of course, they changed the title from “The Space Vampires” to “Lifeforce.” Go figure.

Well, maybe they “buffed it up”. Still, it was one of the worst Sci-Fi movies I ever saw. I remember leaving their theater (in 1985?) feeling simultaneously bewildered and ripped off.

I saw that and seemed to remember it being a “respected” movie, though I never saw it. I’m headed to the tv right now.

Bye...

Mathilda May made a habit of losing her clothes on film. One of the ...make that two of the reasons she's one of my favorite actresses.

I now remember that movie. I found it rather bizarre the first time I saw it many years ago. Doubt if I would want to see it again.

I recently saw this, although probably not restored, along with Videodrome. I feel like despite all the computer fx nowdays movies were allowed to be much weirder back then. How about Patrick Stewart in Lifeforce, ha.

What's the run time on it?

As I remember, there are at least two cuts, differing by at least 15 minutes.

Important film trivia:

It was the first and only high budget Golan-Globus film. It was a money loser. Directed by Tobe Hooper. Music by Henry Mancini. Screenplay by Dan O’Bannon, who started with Dark Star, did computer work on Star Wars, wrote two segments of the movie Heavy Metal, and later in Total Recall.

Patrick Stewart only played a straight role briefly, before being drugged, hypnotized, possessed, you name it. Really hammed it up.

When the astronaut had to rough up a possessed girl on a bed, Peter Firth as an SAS Colonel gave a bit of comic relief by saying he liked to watch that sort of thing.
