If sometimes you wonder if your dog is angry with you for staying out late, you might be right. New evidence suggests that animals have a clear sense of time, using previously undiscovered neurons that seem to switch on to count off minutes as they wait.

Pretzeli-brötchen mit gesalzende butter....
Amazing that anyone smart enough to be in college was unaware of this very simple fact.
Someone should do a study on how easy it is to separate people and organizations from their money in order to research things that should be common sense.
I can be gone 15 minutes and my GSD will act as if I’ve been gone for 2 tours in Iraq when I get back. Then when the greetings over and she’s done throwing a ticker tape parade for me, the dog, in a barky talk back scolding tone and will let me know it’s not happy about me leaving.
If you don’t think that animals can judge time, just see how your pets react next Sunday when most of the US set their clocks back an hour.
In the spring, our pets used to be scratching at the door wondering why we were sleeping so late. In the fall, it was more of a “what are you doing up so early?” quizzical look. It usually took a few days for them to calm down and adjust, much as we do.
Anyone who tries to get their cat off daylight savings time (fall back an hour) quickly finds out the little beast knows exactly what time it is.
I always knew when Thanksgiving was two weeks away. My otherwise completely sociable cat would start slinking furtively around the house, agitated. A family member who only visited at Thanksgiving had frightened the cat to her core one year. Left an imprint for life. While the offending guest was in the house, the cat remained in hiding until his departure. When he departed, the cat returned to her normal, friendly state.
Telling you to get the girlfriend the heck out of there?
Sorry. Joking. Couldn't resist.
She lived to be 18 years old. I don't think she fit time in to die? When she did it really hurt.
Guess the author has never heard of a watchdog.
Sun goes up..sun goes down..
Pook is a genius!
Sometimes I go out for hours and when I come home, I get a weak or no greeting. Other times, I have gone out for a half-hour and he goes berserk, like I've been gone for months. Not sure how that works.
He does pretty well on knowing when he should be fed. Sometimes he tries to pretend it's an hour earlier. If I tell him to get lost, he usually comes back at the right time of day.
We had an old black horse that went blind. He was penned up front next to the barn. We could be outside working and going in and put of the house all day and he wouldn’t pay us any mind. But if we went out between 4 and 5 in the afternoon then he would start talking to us because it was his dinner time.
As for our dogs and cats, they associate me with feeding time at 4:30 every afternoon. I can be gone and come home and they think its feeding time no matter how long I’ve been gone. They don’t pay attention to my wife, but the second they see me they start in.
My pigs know when feeding time is similar to the old horse.
They could have saved millions by sitting in chairs & watching my horses. Same by watching cows come to the barn at milking time. When our cows were all on the same side of the road as the barn, they came into the barn yard on their own. When they were on the other side of the road, I got to take my horse & go get them. But they were easy to move to the barn....it was time for their supplemental feed & milking.
Even better-—go to a boarding stable & watch the horses start to nicker when it is feeding time-—and I mean to the MINUTE.
Mine have always known the difference between ‘ride in the car’ picking up the keys & ‘getting the mail’ picking up the keys.
I was trying to think of such a joke. Too funny. LOL

THAT is the best skill these snowflakes have now-—and in the future.
Mine are totally confused by school bus & kids standing at the corner.
ALL SUMMER-—nothing !!!
And now-—Intruders !!!
Agreed. Just another “grant money” study by “academics” who don’t contribute in the real world.
