A car got submerged in the water Wednesday after the driver and his passenger tried to pose for a photo at the waters edge of a boat ramp in Mission Bay, police said.
The incident happened around 12:20 p.m. Manuel Silla was in the parking lot when he saw the blue Subaru started to slip into the water and called 911.
When I finished the call, the car was already drowned, Manuel Silla said. It through real quick. I dont get it why people were in the car when this is only for boat?
The two men were injured and were able to swim out of the car and into shore, San Diego police Sgt. Cory Mapston said.
They were very unfamiliar with how an actual boating ramp works and the dangers involved, he said. Their car ending up slipping into the water about 20 feet.
It took a two-man lifeguard team to help tow the car out of the water. It was submerged in about six to eight feet of water.
It doesnt appear that alcohol or drug were involved in the incident, Mapston said.
The electrics on those old manual crank windows never shorted out. Water filled up near the top and you could open the window and swim out.
Of course, you can open the door when the water gets near the roof, too.
We used to lease a boat slip in a dock near a double boat ramp. Often we and a couple of other boats would be in our slip without going out when the weather was going to turn bad.
We would have a nice three or four boat social event watching the boaters trying to recover as bad weather approached who had waited too long and other similar events. More stupidity than one could believe.
My spring loaded glass buster is velcroed to the dash next to the ignition for that reason.

Smart!
Everyone should have those in the car.
.
Subaru. Dog, oops, Fish Tested.
LOL. I knew I saw that movie, but it took me a minute to remember...Risky Business :)
I work in insurance on the claims side of things. Unfortunately, stupidity is covered!
That being said, it is often the case that incidents such as this are intentional. Water over the sill plate, especially salt or brackish water, will almost always total a car.
People that are upside down, behind, or simply don’t want the car anymore have figured this out!
From the generally "graceful" early (430-7ish) "pro" fishers and work-a-day crews to the steadily deteriorating anarchy reminiscent of a Walmart Black Friday sale, complete with an assortment of Walmart shoppers, the once-a-year gang (The Dixie is broken! The Dixie is broken!!), and the seasonal "spot fleet" from Pembroke county with their various overloaded contraptions and the demographical giveaway of the front-bumper-mounted-trailer-hitch.
Only to be topped by the late afternoon incoming where they all mix.. and they're tired.. and drunk.. I ain't sayin', just sayin'. (Hat tip to the late Capt/Rev R Holden)
A spectacle not to be missed. d;^)

Good chance your family will live ...
Almost got to add more to the selfie deaths.
Is Manuel legal?
I would love to see what they tell their insurance company!!!
