I'm not sure if this is related, but wasn't there a supposed quote from Bush '41 to the effect that "if the American people ever found out what we'd done they'd chase us down the street and lynch us" .

I spent some time a few months back looking for an authentic citation for this quote. Unfortunately, it suffers from "circular reference syndrome." Never found a primary source. Not saying it's not accurate, just that I could never find anything reliable.

I’ve never found a source, either, but I’ve also seen a very similar quote supposedly from HRC. Her version says “hang from nooses”, IIRC. Same idea.
