My son just sent me a text of Executive Order 13768. This calls for the deportation of anyone accused or convicted of any crime who is not a born US citizen. I have a Green Card, but had a road side DUI in 2011. I paid a fine and took the mandatory Delaware course. No issues prior to then or since. I have been eligible to apply for citizenship for a few years. It took 10 years and $15K to get our green cards legally. I was waiting to see if Hillary won, in which case I did not want US citizenship. My older son, who severed in the military has his citizenship, and my younger son (who also has a green card) has finished his undergrad degree and is waiting to start a doctorate program in the medical field. My wife is a US citizen.
Is ICE just going after the low hanging fruit to bump their numbers up and ignoring people with major felonies and
We've been in the US since 1995. We've been gainfully and legally employed since then. No one in the family has ever been on any form of social assistance or government assistance. In fact we've donated to our local community and have paid our taxes. I helped my older son campaign for PDJT in 2016 (we constructed and placed roadside signs along local highways as well as on personal properties of willing participants.
Now it seems, I may be faced with the prospect of deportation due to a 7 year old DUI with no priors and no subsequents. Is ICE just going after low hanging fruit to bump up their numbers, and ignoring genuine criminals and illegals?
I've been a Freeper for over 20 years, so I know there will be those among you who will respond with comments that suggest I should go to jail or rot in hell or be immediately deported. Save your vitriol for someone who gives a damn. I'm interested in hearing from the more intelligent among us on what might be the best way to proceed.
You should be deported after a good ass whipping.
Yes!!! Absolutely.
Did your DUI get reduced to reckless driving or another lesser offense?
It has been nearly 2 years since Hillary did not win. Have you taken any steps toward acquiring your citizen ship in these 23 months?
On a more serious note, begin packing. And yes, I am very serious.
Talk to an immigration lawyer. If you’re a citizen I don’t see why you would be deported. If you’re not here legally I believe you have a problem.
Unfortunately, you put something up like this, on a public forum, you get what you get.
So, the first question, in 1995 did you enter the country legally or not?
If I were you, I’d start the citizenship process immediately.
And your loyalty should be to the country and what she stands for regardless of who wins office. Had you already done this you could have helped defeat Hildabeast. As it was we did it without you.
You may get deported and should be. You have had plenty of time to become a citizen.
Yes.
Yes you will.
You will need to contact a good defense attorney. If no one was hurt, or affected by the DUI incident, the better chance you have. I know a guy who had a DUI conviction still get a green card.
BTW, I'm sure you can continue to read and participate on FR from Canada.
Canada would have already deported you. I know you can’t go to Canada with a DUI on your record.
That’s a question to ask an immigration attorney. As long as no property damage or bodily harm was done, and your record is otherwise spotless, I don’t see a problem.
You have been in the USA LEGALLY since 1995...?
Why haven’t made the effort to become a citizen?
Now, a serious answer: Immediately retain an immigration lawyer. I suspect that 7 years will be enough to demonstrate good citizenship, but you are sunk without a lawyer.
He’s a legal resident alien.
First, the Federal Courts have stayed the Executive order.....so no worries.......
Second, if you had emigrated to any other country you would have been deported by now.....
