'You Stole a Point from Me, You're a Thief Too': Serena Williams Breaks Down as She Argues [Trunc]

Serena Williams came to blows with the umpire in the U.S. Open's Women's final as she accused him of 'stealing a point from her'.

Umpire Carlos Ramos issued a game penalty to the U.S star during her game against Japan's Naomi Osaka because the umpire accused her of getting coaching from the side lines.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner screamed at Ramos: 'Every time I play here, I have problems. I did not have coaching, I don't cheat. You need to make an announcement. I have a daughter and I stand for what's right. You owe me an apology.'

'For you to attack my character is wrong. You owe me an apology. You will never be on a court with me as long as you live. You are the liar. You owe me an apology. Say it. Say you're sorry.

'How dare you insinuate that I was cheating? You stole a point from me. You're a thief too. '

Moments later Williams crashed out of the final with Osaka winning 6-2, 6-4.

Serena is news because she came out strongly in favor of Kaepernick and the NFL take-a-knee protests.

Attention whores all. Not news.

I disagree. Her coach was clearly giving her hand signals and they were not "thumbs up". He admitted it. The ref called her on it and she threw a fit. She has always been a complete phony with her so-nice attitude when the cameras are on her (and she has won) but nasty in real life. Don't you remember how she told that tiny lines woman she was going to stuff the ball down her f-ing throat when she was called for a foot fault?

She is playing the woman card. Saying she is fighting for equal rights and other nonsense. OK, fine, play 3 out of 5 sets like the men do and then we'll talk.

She has a daughter? I thought that was just a giant chip on her shoulder.

I also disagree.

Only an obvious portion of the game is linked to the volley and keeping the ball in bounds.

The rules place heavy emphasis on the Sport of the Court.

Tennis players are a dedicated lot and when they play for so many years at an elevated level, they well understand a ranking might very well appear arbitrary.

One of the major rules is no discrimination.

Serena’s appeal to the enforcement of rules being different for men and women is much deeper thought out than simply a hasty frustrated slip of the tongue. Especially when her coach made the same “out of the blue” comment in the post match interview where he insisted he intentionally was coaching her during the play. (BTW, only allowed in the 2nd 10 min break between sets in the match and at no other time.)

It really strikes me that Serena has a natural affinity to attack whenever something doesn’t go her way, including her own mistakes.

IMHO, I wish more umpires/officials had the volition to defend the rules of both the game and of the Court. IMHO, they should’ve hit her with a $1000 fine when she made comments about how the Umpire would never officiate on her court again, and then keep hitting her with $1000 fines until her volition changed, then suspend her for the damage she had caused to the sport.

Yep, the only person that stole anything is Serena when she stole Osaka’s great moment.
*****************************************
^THIS^. And young Osaka displayed class and grace while Williams was throwing her series of classless tantrums. Williams was simply pissed that she was being crushed by Miss Osaka.

ESPN took her side of course.

Except for the interview they did with her coach who admitted he was giving signals to her.

Reading an article in its entirety helps.......

Here you go.....

After she repeatedly insulted the umpire, calling him a liar and a thief and demanding an apology he docked her a game, leaving her at 3-5, from which she could not recover.

Watch the video of the coach's hand signals. What the coach was doing was more than a simple "thumbs up". The infraction is clear ... and there was every reason for the officials to call it out.

And even with that, it only cost Williams a point (and only then because of her earlier unsportsmanlike conduct). Williams's continuing tirade against the official and her disrespect for the sport -- buoyed by the crowd better suited for a rugby match in this instance -- is what ultimately cost her a game point and the match. I say, "Bravo" to the officials for officiating in accordance with the rules of tennis.

As for the crowd, again I’m not a tennis fan, but I think the US Open crowds have for decades denigrated the decorum of the sport and this is the culmination of years of treating the game with disrespect.
