Interesting, Timi was White and sang in Black style.

Roy Hamilton was Black and sang in a White style!

Yeah great song by Timi Yuro.

I was a fan of about 6 songs by Elvis. But the real R&R kings of the mid to late 50s was Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Antoine “ Fats” Domino.
(Well Little Richard was perhaps a queen of R&R. ).

When Elvis got fat, wore white leather jumpsuits and shilled in Los Vegas he was through to me.

I was returning from the rifle range in August 1977 when the DJ on the radio announced his death. He was young. Sad.

Ironic that the “King of Rock and Roll” and the “Queen of Soul” both died on August 16th.

I prefer Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” (and the original NiN version)

***************

Cash died about six months after his recording........

When Reznor was asked if Cash could cover his song, Reznor said he was "flattered" but worried that "the idea sounded a bit gimmicky." He became
a fan of Cash's version, however, once he saw the music video.

I pop the video in, and wow... Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps... Wow. [I felt like] I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn't mine anymore... It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning – different, but every bit as pure.

The original!

Thanks for posting. I had never heard that version before. It apparently was issued late in 1954 or in early 1955, but it didn't chart nationally.

My favorite song by Timi Yuro is What's the Matter, Baby? from the spring of 1962.

No one can match Timi Yuro’s version of “Hurt.”

“Jailhouse Rock” - arguably the first rock music video.

"August 1977 when the DJ on the radio announced his death. He was young. Sad."

I remember being 10 when I heard on the radio that Elvis died.

We were pulling into the parking lot at Sambo's for dinner.

I was just a kid, but I knew it was a big deal.

Elvis was 42.

That seemed so "old" to me, but now that I'm 51, I realize just how much life Elvis squeezed into his short time on earth.

Thanks for the link to Timi Yuro. How is it I’ve never heard of her? Amazing voice. Soulful interpretation.

LOL ... I'm sure if Elvis were alive today he'd think a sh*t load of you.

My brother once saw an Elvis concert at the Minnesota Stae Fair and said it was the greatest show anyone ever saw or hoped to see.

Elvis? King? He was the Babe Ruth of the music industry.

______________________

Yes ....... I'm near 72 years old and I was lucky enough to see Elvis out in the country in West Virginia back in the late 50's.

His performance received a greater response (by far) than the Beatles or anyone else.

He missed his (real) career because of Col. Parker ... a dirty money-grubbing slug.
