To the author (Paul Sutter): Respectfully scientists may spend the money but most if comes from taxpayers. So if we want to gripe about the stuff that comes back, stop complaining about us complaining. Suck it up and enjoy the free toys we give you. While I agree he shouldn't have sounded so nasty about it, he did explain why they often need to tweak the colors, or even assign random colors, in order to better study and/or highlight various features of the objects they're observing or presenting to the public.

I'm not saying he doesn't have a point. Not even saying that they should pick different colors. Just saying that the condescending attitude should be dropped and he should just shrug when the bill payers whine. They aren't going to storm the castle and tear down the telescope so let them vent a bit. If he truly wants to educate them on why the colors are used, a different tone would be wise instead of "here's why you're dumber than us".
It's like these people who make movies like Star Wars belittling the fans and calling them sexist neck beards because they don't like the newest Star Wars movie. Dude, they pay for that franchise to exist. Let them post stuff on social media and keep your mouths shut, go cash the checks and make the next movie but maybe try not to be an arrogant jerk about it.
