We finally have some green peppers and a few red ones and the cherry tomatoes are turning orange a few at a time, so I am picking them before they get ripe, to beat the squirrels. They ripen up pretty quickly, and taste really good too.
I finally got a few cukes, and made some refrigerator pickles. It is weird that the cukes aren't doing as well this year-same variety. Just in a bigger pot, so I figured all would be better.
Of course, the pot was sitting next to the corn patch, and so they were more shaded, so perhaps that is it. The squash plant just keeps on keeping on-it volunteered right where the compost bin's door is-convincing hubby that compost is even better than he thought.
Also, he's finally seeing the light with respect to succession planting rather than planting too much stuff all at the same time. We are reading through 4 season sun room porches materials, but still don't have the plans drawn.
The weather has been weird this year. July and August are usually drought months and really hot, even the nights. This year we have actually had rain and the temps are not as high, especially the nights-which are in the 60s and moderate 70s.

I have just pinged the garden thread. It’s a once a week ping-usually on Friday evening. If you have an article to share, now would be a pretty good time to post it.
Getting a good rain tonight here in the Colorado Rockies. Already harvested some potatoes and mustard greens. Waiting on tomatoes and pole beans. None of the black eyed peas came up.
I think I killed off a couple or three of my watermelon sprouts by over-watering. Oops.
They’re on the kitchen table next to the slooooooooow-growing pepper sprouts. They sprung up about 3 weeks ago or so and looked nice. They haven’t grown much at all if anything.
I had added water and a couple more watermelon sprouts came up. Got to be about 4-5 inches tall. IF October holds out, I should make the 85-90 days required (sprouting in mid-July).
So the pepper sprouts may be going out on the deck soon. I’ll put them in planters and hide them from the heat under the benches. Worked well for the tomatoes. Which are small, small, small. But it’s first year I’ve tried Sweet Million. Maybe I’m supposed to leave them to get bigger.
Ah well, what do I know. My peppers (jalapeno, Serrano, et c.) will give me me a little joy for a few dishes.
BTW.. Lady Bender had a total knee replacement Monday morning and is doing great thanks to modern medicine ...
Sorry about the BE Peas. However, I’d pick taters over those any day of the week. LOL So at least you got taters.
So nice that you get strawberries this late in the season. What few we get are gone by June-and they are supposed to be everbearing.
I hope everyone is doing well and has had a pleasant July , I am still acclimating to my new home state of Louisiana and am putting the fine touches on the plants /trees/lawn at my home.....kinda funny how everything is green down here with all the rain and all...hmmmm
Does anyone have a recommendation for non-chemical based nitrogen fertilizer and a link to where to buy it?

My sweet million tomatoes that I grew were the size of grapes and delicious. I planted a cantaloupe, but it’s barely hanging in, I think I should have put more compost on the bed before planting.
However, the turmeric is doing well in the same bed.

Alfalfa Meal is pretty good organic nitrogen fertilizer.
Turkey poop.
My sister gave me some a few years ago. It turned marigold plants into bushes.

Here’s a link to an article regarding organic fertilizers has a recipe for alfalfa tea. I have bought alfalfa meal from my local feed store-it’s one of the best bangs for the buck!
Can you buy it online?
Have you had a good experience with it? Did you see a noticeable difference using it?
I have a list of natural sources, I'm trying to find the best bang.
No garden this year. Been fighting an infestation of Horehound and losing for years, so this year is focused on battling the Weed from Hell.
