Though I think the debate is pointless today just as it was in the 1890’s (on and on it went,) and again as it was during the centennial, (on and on the same things said over and again and nobody listening,) I still think that today, a “state’s rights” position could be useful if it ever comes to blows.
Did you get my point that our side will NOT FIGHT without legitimate constituted authority? The states could provide this. There would also need to be a clear moral argument to give our side the Divine authority it has always needed. For the North it was the moral outrage of slavery, for the South it was the Bible authority for slavery, hence both sides in that war were fought by the good people who as Lincoln so aptly said, “called the same God” to aid.
Anyway what is the point in castigating the “lost causers” here on FreeRepublic? Where are the folks that realize we must come together, as we did to face the German threat in 1916 and the Soviet threat in the 1960’s?
Well we don’t need to come together if we are not gonna do anything. So we might as well put those lost causers, in their place.
BTW I cannot see that the invasion-of-the-North argument while perfectly true as far as it goes, is convincing anybody. You might think why this is so. Are you solving some problem? Is the strategy working or not? What is the point? All respect and love to you Brother Joe!
I don't believe it ever will, absent some cataclysm we don't even imagine now.
Remember, there was some dark talk about Obama building, in effect, an alternate military to overthrow existing institutions but nothing came of it.
Doubtless one reason is the Obamanistas thought they could do enough damage simply by infiltrating and corrupting the DC Deep State.
And who knows, maybe they will...?
BDParrish: "Did you get my point that our side will NOT FIGHT without legitimate constituted authority? The states could provide this."
"Our side" will never start any such fight, nor will any come while President Trump is still effective.
As for the more distant future, well... anything is theoretically possible, but a CWII is very improbable under current conditions.
BDParrish: "For the North it was the moral outrage of slavery, for the South it was the Bible authority for slavery, hence both sides in that war were fought by the good people who as Lincoln so aptly said, called the same God to aid."
But the Bible strongly opposes slavery for God's people, indeed it is one long anti-slavery document -- from Exodus out of Egypt to Jesus freeing all of us from slavery to sin.
But your comment here shows that like everything else in Lost Cause mythology, claims that the Bible supports slavery are built on lies.

But I don't "castigate" anybody except for endlessly repeating their lies & myths.
By the way, those great "come together" periods were both under "Progressive" Democrat Presidents (Wilson & FDR) who specifically & openly supported both Southern Democrats and much of their Lost Cause mythology.
Today the last of the old Southern Democrats wants to pretend they're Republicans if only we, like old-time Northern Democrats, would buy & embrace their Lost Causer nonsense.
That's not going to happen, nor should it, ever.
You disagree?
