How many more times can it be said that Better Call Saul is one of the best shows on television? As many more times as theyre willing to make new episodes.
Its been 10 years since Breaking Bad premiered (an anniversary still being celebrated), but four since the Vince Gilligan- and Peter Gould-created prequel premiered.
And in that time, the (mostly) same creative team that changed television with the original series has only continued to up their game year after year. Watching the ways in which the Better Call Saul team challenges themselves to push beyond the expected, beyond the easy, beyond the mundane (especially when depicting the most mundane of events) has been one of the most fascinating experiences possible for a TV fan.
This review will be spoiler-free except for the well-established news that the house fire at the end of Season 3 was, in fact, fatal for Chuck (Michael McKean), and as you might expect, this fact hovers over these early episodes. Its just one facet of the story, though: Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) might be grieving, but hes also a wounded animal in search of work following the loss of his law license in Season 3 and the impact of Kims (Rhea Seehorn) accident (leaving her nursing a broken arm and other damages).
Plus, dealing drugs in Albuquerque has become very complicated following Don Hectors (Mark Margolis) stroke, especially given the fact that Nacho (Michael Mando) swapped Don Hectors medications so that he could try to keep his father out of the business and maybe even free himself. But Nacho might be screwed on that front, given how Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) is lurking in the shadows and Mike (Jonathan Banks) is still sorting out how he fits (or not) into the local criminal underworld.

Thanks for posting. Its been a long wait for Season 4. Sorry to see that brother Chuck died in fire.
ping
well Chuck, you ARE crazy. and a solid gold prick to your brother.
I dont want spoilers. The article was good and made me excited for this season. But your link title in post 1 gave a bit of a spoiler there.
Love the show. The actor who played chuck was so good I think I despise the actor himself! Lol.
And I went CRAZY for Bob Odenkirk back in Breaking Bad. Every second he was on film I was thrilled. He was my favorite character.
Good for you, O patient one. Not me, I cant wait, if possible will watch the first episode of next season the night it airs.
TV Show about a Lawyer that you will never see.
Better call Cohen.
Clearly British with your series 1 and 2. Lol.
That was a great feeling to see that a hole on the stand defending his sanity. Loved that episode.
Same
I re-watch stuff and tend to pick up stuff that I missed.
Chuck’s house with him in it was on fire at the end of Season 3 so the result was obvious. As for Walt and Jesse not appearing in this season, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould said at Comic-Con that they could have teased viewers all season about an appearance but said the tease would have detracted from other aspects of the show. HOWEVER, they hinted that they would appear sometime in the future.
Breaking Bad is the only one of all these Netflix etc. shows that I have ever watched. Binged watched it for a week. Best ever.
Gosh I was worried when I first heard that a prequel to Breaking Bad was being made centered on Saul. I thought it would be bad but it is actually very good! Thanks for the heads up!
“The actor who played chuck was so good I think I despise the actor himself!”
He was so different from the doofus he played on “LaVerne And Shirley”. Good actor!
I liked him better in Spinal Tap....
I like both shows for different reasons. neither show is the other one and shouldnt be thought of that way.
I finally binge-watched 3rd season of BCS just yesterday. Looking forward to season 4! SPOILER ALERT! So Chuck went to his grave with the truth about their mother asking for Jimmy with her last breath. Sorry to see Chuck go, he was a good foil (no pun intended) for Jimmy. And the whole HHM/retirement storyline is over now too.
That scum-sucking weasel should have been fed into the fire feet first ... an inch at a time. I loved it when Howard forced him out of the firm. Although Howard is almost as greasy, he's at least not the total prick Upchuck was.
lol.
Texan. Not British. But I did just finish bingeing Call the Midwife. So there’s that.....
Hard not to when they’re essentially the same story, have many of the same characters created by the same people.
