That’s a young Hillary Clinton in the photo at the bottom. Look in the audience turned around looking back at the camera. Just to our right of the shield.

Wow, just like in “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter”!

I was just reading this issue while hanging out in the clubhouse at the pool, waiting to see if Thor would allow us to resume the interrupted swim meet. (No. Our team conceded.)

I was deeply touched by the sad sorry of “Sowing His Wild Oats.” The adults were a bunch of goofs, but none of it was the baby’s fault, which makes it a Tale for Our Time.

How interesting. “Harper’s” mentioned the visit of the young Englishmen to New York.

The doggerel at the end is cute.

Really? Where? I’m reading the Harper’s as carefully as I read the NY Times during the WWII project. That is to say, not so carefully. That is changing as we get close to the Lincoln-Douglas show and the marvel of the century - the Atlantic cable. I am watching for indications that Lincoln is becoming a figure of national import. And I couldn’t help but notice that the Atlantic cable will become a media sensation, with several pages of each issue devoted to it.

I found it, in The Lounger. I’ll have to watch that feature. It is also where I found the first mention of the “Illinois canvas.” (In August, I think.)

I read Harper’s in more detail than usual on Tuesday during the swim meet’s rain delay.
