A co-worker married an African woman and they paid a visit to his Father in Law who lived on the eastern coast - I forget the country.
He kept 3 wives in 3 different apartments. I guess this was a status symbol.
My co-worker friend related that the only thing he observed was that having 3 wives made his FIL at least 30 times as hen-pecked.

Lot of Africans right here in Maine have multiple wives. One older man who died recently was said to have 109 children.
