AZ BISHOP: Punish enforcers of Trump's immigration policy

As the U.S. bishops discuss immigration, one bishop says the Church should punish Catholic government officials who enforce the president's immigration policies. Critics have noted no similar calls to punish pro-abortion or pro-gay marriage officials.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) began its biannual meeting on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The meeting opened with a special focus on immigration policies, and several bishops condemned the Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Bishop Edward Weisenburger of Tuscon, Arizona even suggested using canon law to punish those responsible for splitting up families. Possessing a degree in canon law, the bishop said, "Even though what I am saying may be risky or dangerous, I think it's important to point out that canonical penalties are there in place to heal — first and foremost to heal."

He continued, "And therefore for the salvation of these people's souls, maybe it's time for us to look at canonical penalties."

The man is insane. Or there’s something else involved, something perverted.

Wouldn’t it be more difficult to partake of communion in a holy attitude while served by a priest that is flamboyantly ungodly?

"And therefore for the salvation of these people's souls, maybe it's time for us to look at canonical penalties."

Loosely translated, "Inquisition" 2.0. No thank you.

I don’t even see an attempt to investigate. “Sentence first, trial afterwards!”

Sure. What this guy said is a public scandal. He is suggesting what the bishops should have done with those public Catholics who support abortion in a public way, which is a scandal that should dwarf any other scandal as far as I can tell if what the Church says about abortion is correct. But he is suggesting it for a those who are simply advocating and implementing reasonable and safe immigration policy.

The Catholic bishops’ charities have been paid to bring in third-world primitives and set them up with public housing and welfare checks for decades.

No charity in getting paid.

I’ve been a lapsed Catholic for a long time. Too many contradictions and who needs all that guilt.

The Bishop is incorrect
Romans 13 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

Obey Your Government Rulers
13 All of you must obey the government rulers. Everyone who rules was given the power to rule by God. And all those who rule now were given that power by God. 2 So anyone who is against the government is really against something God has commanded. Those who are against the government bring punishment on themselves. 3 People who do right don’t have to fear the rulers. But those who do wrong must fear them. Do you want to be free from fearing them? Then do only what is right, and they will praise you.

4 Rulers are God’s servants to help you. But if you do wrong, you have reason to be afraid. They have the power to punish, and they will use it. They are God’s servants to punish those who do wrong. 5 So you must obey the government, not just because you might be punished, but because you know it is the right thing to do.

6 And this is why you pay taxes too. Those rulers are working for God, and they give all their time to the work of ruling. 7 Give everyone what you owe them. If you owe them any kind of tax, then pay it. Show respect to those you should respect. And show honor to those you should honor.

This is, in no way, the thoughts or actions of a Christian man - let alone leader.

Of course I presume this bishop supports gay marriage and abortion.

The Catholic Church should lose it’s tax exemption status when they obviously show political bias. Give the satanic pope one warning.

Matthew 22:21

Or does he have an opinion in opposition?

Leaders of the Catholic Church seem quite intent on bringing about the Church’s ultimate downfall and abandonment, following the Anglican/Episcopal/Church of England’s path on that downward spiral.

Oh well...

Jesus also had a Judas.

Peter said, "Lord, to whom else shall we go?"

So, from the best evidence I am staying put.

When they go after the Catholic Church, they soon go after every other Christian Church.

Wouldn’t surprise me to read one day that he was arrested for running a child sex trafficking ring.

No church should be getting tax exemptions, that puts the government in the business of deciding whose religion is legitimate and whose isn’t.

Actually, not to tax was set up as the federal government's way of staying out of religion. It is the hands off approach. I think it wise a wise choice.

Even though the government does not tax a church, it still is able to make other demands, like fire safety regulations.

A church is expected to be a good neighbor.

For the government to tax a church means they also have the right to tell the church what to do.

The Bill of Rights prevents any whiff of interfering with the spiritual work of a church.

If they can interfere with a church's mission then they can also take away our guns.

In Australia they are working to force a priest to expose what is said to him in a confessional. That is wrong and stepping way in where the government does not belong.
