Good (and bad) movies come and go, but some films garner such a fierce, loyal following that they reach cult status. People watch them over and over and over again. They host parties to watch them some more. Midnight showings at movie theaters draw incredible crowds, and oftentimes, fans "act out" the scenes in front of the screen.
Actors who happened to have been in cult movies enjoy lifetimes of stardom (to one extent or another) and can probably make a living signing autographs at events and Comic-Con ad nauseam.
Are you a huge fan of any cult classic? Here are some favorites below. Weigh in with the ones you can't get enough of!
Dr. Strangelove
Raising Arizona
Monty Python & The Holy Grail
Office Spcae
Animal House
Full Metal Jacket
My most quoted movies
I give a Thumbs UP to pretty much that whole list. Buckaroo Banzai is one of my favourites.
And to think that actor soon after portrayed Hitler.
“One, Two, Three”
Austin Powers International Man of Mystery
Have you watched the three seasons of Fargo on TV?
Ah! True Romance. Good one.
And a hearty +1 for Buckaroo Banzai
Watched it again for the umpteenth time on my 70th birthday.
Guaranteed to make you laugh out loud more than a few times.
My friends call me The Dude. Or His Dudeness. Or Duder. Or El Duderino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing....
"The Dude Abides"
I’m thinking of one...
“Army of Darkness”
New favorite:
“Frankenstein’s Army”
Mosins v. nazi madness at the end of WW2. Mosquito man is a hoot!
I forgot Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, but there is only so much bandwidth.
The train scene and the skydiving scene still make me laugh hard enough to lose my breath every time I see them. The reson being I did stupid shit like that when I was a kid. I hung with a bunch of people that would do these crazy antics and in the scene with the train we would have asked the same question those guys do and at the exact same time which was before the cable went taut but AFTER it was too late to stop the madness... "how we gonna stop?"
Lots of good ones mentioned.
Beetlejuice
Big Trouble in little China and Streets of Fire are my tops
The Big Lebowski is a great movie, not just a “cult classic”.
In the top 10 comedy films of all time.
