The Walking Dead Star Andrew Lincoln to Exit Next Season: Report
TV Line ^ | May 29, 2018 | Dave Nemetz

R.I.P., Rick Grimes?

Andrew Lincoln is set to exit the AMC hit drama The Walking Dead during the upcoming Season 9, according to a report from Collider. Lincoln, who stars as Rick on the hit zombie thriller, will reportedly only appear in a half-dozen episodes in Season 9 before leaving the show for good. To compensate for the loss of its primary star, AMC is reportedly preparing to offer Lincoln’s co-star Norman Reedus (Daryl) “substantial compensation” to stay with the show and assume the lead role. (AMC declined to comment when TVLine reached out for confirmation.)

The Walking Dead is a show built for cast turnover, with characters often dying in shocking fashion, but the loss of Lincoln — the face of the series for eight seasons now — would be especially tough to overcome. Just last season, many fans protested when Rick’s son Carl, played by Chandler Riggs, was killed off. Plus, Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, will be starring in the new ABC drama Whiskey Cavalier, and will only return to TWD next season on a part-time basis.

“the show was sooo DARK, I could barely see ANYTHING”

I had the same problem. That’s not the only show that’s lacking lighting. I also have trouble with some shows with characters that mumble and speak with accents. A good example of the latter is Alfred on Gotham (which is the best comic book show ever done).

“I know. Which mean I’ll never get the masculine male leader character that I yearn for in movies and TV (and life too, lol).”

Just curious. What masculine leader characters have you liked in movies and TV?

“Maggie will probably go next season too.”

I think Maggie will be a part-time character. Lauren Cohan (Come?) will be in a new series another network. Can’t remember the name or network.

To be honest, I thought this last season ended in a good enough place that it could/should have been the series finale. To have the story go on without THE star — Rick Grimes IS the hero/protagonist of the whole thing — seems impossible. The whole concept is getting rather stale and unless they are going to take it in a new, more positive direction I can’t see myself watching it anymore.

Interesting. I liked almost all of the Bruce Willis movies I’ve seen and he was really good in Moonlighting. Garner was a good actor, probably underrated, and broke new ground with Maverick. McQueen was good, the rest were okay.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am always curious to know how women view men. You all have always been curious to me. I had 5 brothers, no sisters. 13 sisters-in-law but I’m still baffled as to what motivates so many of you and, even more, why you do some of the things you do. I always come back to the same answer: because you’re women and you’re wired differently than normal people.

What about JUSTICE, Rick?

Anymore, I turn on Closed Captions for most everything I watch. Surprising how much easier it is to follow plots. ;o)

“I turn on Closed Captions...”

Thanks for the tip. Normally I find screen crawlers annoying but there are shows I just turn off if I can’t understand the dialog.

Yeah, justice. Or just good old-fashioned revenge.

Negan is garbage. He can't be trusted. Ever. He has shown himself to be a completely amoral psychopath and narcissist.

I would kneecap him first, to eliminate any possibility of escape. Then I would make it a weekly ritual to drag him out of his cell into the public square and let the people he's wrong beat on him for a while. Nothing fatal, just painful. Then he'd be hauled back to the dank dark to wait for the next week.

This would go on until it no longer served its purpose, and then I'd have a lottery to see who gets to put the final bullet in that POS's brain.

You are supporting one of the biggest Hollywood libs in bob odenkirk. He was behind the attempted electoral vote hijack and is a big resistance apparatchik.
I liked the first season before he showed his true colors in 2016 election. After that better things to do. I also believe show #’s tanked after his theatrics

Yeah, justice. Or just good old-fashioned revenge.

I'm not so sure about that as I don't see the reasons nor benefits for ongoing public torture. Public execution, maybe. The repercussions would be how it could pervert and coarsen what justice really is not to mention the sacrifice of positive human traits that society NEEDS such as mercy, compassion and forgiveness. Negan certainly earned his capital punishment many times over but as much as I despise his actions, I would not relish seeing anyone tortured. It's, of course, human nature to want revenge but no matter how much we may want to recompense evil for evil, it won't bring the victims back. Could Hitler ever be punished enough for all that he did?

What I enjoyed about watching TWD was imagining how people would react to such a catastrophic event and what each personality type would do to survive or, in the case of some, surrender to the horrible situations. I think we would all like to see ourselves as survivors but I wonder how many of us would last for very long going without the comforts of modern life - plentiful food, clean water, AIR CONDITIONING, TV, medicines, etc.. It was a good thought experiment.

Now, the show has pretty much played out that theme and unless they start down some kind of positive road towards rebuilding, I'm done with investing my time in watching it.

The pain Negan caused has to be offset by the pain he suffers. There's no way it can ever be equal; no human being could survive that long. So all I could do is make him suffer as long as it serves a useful purpose, then waste a bullet on his worthless skull and throw him to the dogs.

I would be more afraid of what would happen if he was mercifully executed. THAT, in my opinion, would be the miscarriage of justice.

I'd let the people he hurt decide. When they had enough and were telling me to end it, I'd be glad to. But not until they -- and I -- were satisfied.

It's not very Christian of me, but I'll answer to the Almighty for that.

Women today embarrass me because they are too mean. I think abortion, just in the culture - not even as a personal choice, has made them angry at men for letting abortion happen.

So, somehow, women decided to compete with men instead of becoming one with men. Too sad. This results in no current masculine actors who can be the lead, because, the woman can never be the one who is saved in the drama.

“somehow, women decided to compete with men instead of becoming one with men”

I totally agree. I don’t mind competing with anyone as long as the playing field is square and fair, and I wouldn’t mind having a competitive woman partner, as long as we complemented each other, the whole being stronger than the sum of its parts. I don’t like at all women tough guys on tv and in the movies who beat up on men much larger than they are; that would require a suspension of disbelief that I just can’t muster
